Bev,
I believe that they were still in Rhodogeidio in 1861. I have found the
following at Ancestory.com for the 1861 Census of Wales, County of Anglesey,
Parish of Rhodogeidio, RG9/4365, Page 8:
Richard Roberts, Head, Wd, 63, Shoe Maker, Llanerchymedd
Thomas Roberts, son, 25, Shoe Maker, Llanerchymedd
These are the only two in the household.
If you would like a copy of the original page, let me know and I can have a
link e-mailed to you.

Does anyone know of a source or lists of nurses? My grandmother was listed as a Nurse (private) on her 1924 marriage certificate - is it possible to apply to the registration body for details? No idea when or where she qualified, and of course she may never have taken any qualifications!
Any help gratefully received!

Hello Arlene
Thanks for your response which confirms what the registrar at Llangefni said for the parish of Llanfihangel Esceifiog only this afternoon.
Because there is a Gaerwen within a mile of both villages (Rhostryfan and Pentre Berw) did the 1891 Corwen (Dolaberalwen) enumerator become confused over the place off birth?
Thanks for your help.
Edward

Ian,
Again thank you so much.
Henry's father was Dr.Thomas Christie from Scotland, he married Mary
Isabella Tolfrey in Ceylon, where he practised medicine in the employ of the
East India company for many years.
There were six Christie brothers, sons of Dr. Christie, who were in the
Military, and one in the Ministry. Two of the military brothers were in the
80th Regt of Foot and came to the Penal Colony of Port Jackson as the guards
of the convicts for over four years.
Somewhere back before Dr.Thomas Christie and his wife Mary Tolfrey there
is a Paget from Wales. The Harrisons, who the two brothers mentioned above
married sisters, also have the connection to Wales, through the sister's
mother Ellen Harrison (nee Beaver).
Thank you so much for all this information about Henry Paget Christie's
family. It is very much appreciated.
Regards,
Janice

Good Evening Listers,
I am hoping that SKS can help me to tie up all the lose pieces of this family puzzle. I will set the story out, with the names of all the players. I know there is a common thread there, but I need help.
The story begins with the marriage of Ellen BEAVER. Ellen, we believe was the daughter of Robert BEAVER and was born circa 1792 at Newborough, Anglesea. Ellen married James Harrison of Manchester, Lancashire at Llandberblig, Caernarvonshire in Wales on 3rd Sept, 1812.
James and Ellen returned to Manchester, where James Harrison was a Cotton Manufacture. Over the years they produced at least nine children. The first of their children to marry was Ellen Harrison and she married Capt.William Harvie Christie in Manchester Cathedral in 1835. Not long after the couple sailed with the 80th Regt.of Foot to the Penal Colony of Port Jackson (Australia). The Harrisons family no long after the couple sailed, sold up in Manchester and moved to their country estate "Hill House" in Brading on the Isle of Wight.
Witness at the Wedding of William Harvie Christie and Ellen Harrison, are a very interesting lot indeed:-
Lord BLAYNEY. Hugh BEAVER. (a cousin or Uncle of the bride) Henry Paget CHRISTIE (a brother of the groom), Elizabeth Eccles, James Harrison Esq (brother of the bride). Samuel Tolfrey Christie (brother of the groom), Ralph Beaver (cousin or Uncle of the bride) and Elizabeth Harrison (cousin of the bride).
The CHRISTIE family had a habit through many generations to give a maternal surname, as a second name to their children. Such as Harvie, Tolfrey, Paget, Bathurst, Farquar, Tullock. So I feel that Ellen HARRISON (nee Beaver), is related to Lord Blayney and the PAGET family, but I know not how. Here is an example of the names that were given to their children. The couple above who married and sailed to Australia, named their first born, William Beaver Blayney CHRISTIE. What a mouth full.
There is a strange twist to this story. I am helping out a relative with the above family research, however, my husband family also touches on the PAGETS. However, not moving in their social circle. My husband's ggg convict grandfather, John Pearce from Eling in Hampshire, after he arrived in the Colony on board the Perseus in 1802, was assigned to one Lt.Nicholas Paget Bayly. Back then in the new Colony is was much less than 8% of separation.
Hoping someone can help to tie these Welsh families together for me.
Regards,
Janice

Dear list,
I can't remember the name of the lady from Oz who is interested but
searching the LDS 1881 census for Henry Paget Christie comes up with this
entry, born 1818 in Malta and therefore, presumably, birth to be found in
the PRO?? Can anybody help? I have no experience on forces births and
baptisms.
IGI was seemingly no help but didn't try Malta.

I apologise for anyone getting this info twice but if you read Chris's note below, he is not half wrong. I do have a huge brickwall which involves several people. I will try to give info as it came to light to me in the hope that someone can come up with some ideas.
My great uncle Edward Cropper married Sarah Mary Samuel in 1877 in Liverpool. I obtained a copy of the 1881 census showing Edward and Sarah and baby son John living at Prince Edwin Street, Liverpool.
The 1891 census shows Edward, Sarah Mary and their 4 children (not including first born John). The family were living at 10 Conway Street, Bootle, Liverpool.
The 1901 census shows Edward, Sarah and children living with Margarette Beckingham (head), with Sarah Mary recorded as niece. The family were living at 88 Radcliffe St, Everton, Liverpool. Margarette was a widow aged 60 years.
On researching Sarah Mary I was able to obtain a copy of the 1871 census which showed Sarah Mary living with her uncle Joseph Horlock Beckingham at Haigh Street, Everton, Liverpool. Sarah was 11 years old and Joseph was recorded as being married but his wife was not on the census for that year.
I then tried to trace Joseph Beckingham and found a lot of details including his parents on the Dorset website.
JOSEPH BECKINGHAM
1851 - Living in parish of Holt & Hinton Parva, Dorset.
The 1861 census shows Joseph living in Shirley, Millbrook, unmarried and a family grocer's assistant, living at High Street, Millbrook.
1871 census shows Joseph as being married (no wife listed on census) but living with Sarah Mary Samuel (niece) aged 11 years. Joseph was an Outdoor H M Customs Officer by this time and living at 171 Haigh Street, Everton, Liverpool.
1871 census shows Margarette Beckingham (visitor) to family of Roberts ie Mariah Roberts, Ann Roberts, Elizabeth Roberts. Elizabeth was a widow. I think this is the same Elizabeth who married David Roberts and mother to Jane Samuel.
1881 census shows Joseph with wife Margarette living at 140 Salisbury Street, Everton, Liverpool. No children are recorded, but a servant Mary E Atkinson was living with the couple.
1891 census shows Joseph and Margarette still living in Everton at 9 Cobden Street. Servant Mary E Atkinson has now left or had died by this time.
Joseph died in 1892.
Trying to find more on Sarah Mary, a wonderful lister sent me a copy of the 1861 census for Amlwch, Wales where Sarah is recorded as a one year old with Jane Samuel (mother). No father recorded. Mother and baby were living with David Roberts, wife Elizabeth and their son Ralph (also married with no wife listed). Both Jane and Sarah are recorded as being daughters. This is unlikely to be the case as it would make Elizabeth out to be a mother at 58 years, so the child is probably Jane's.
I cannot find Ralph or his wife and children
No information on marriage for Jane or her whereabouts in later censuses.
I cannot find Mariah and Ann although both of them were unmarried in their early 30's so could well have married later.
I don't know who Margarette belongs to. As she was an aunt to Sarah Mary I assumed she was either a Samuel married to Beckingham or a Roberts married to Beckingham, neither of which I have been able to endorse.
I am sorry this is so long-winded and I don't blame anyone for giving up half way through but thank you for your time anyway. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Regards as always

Subject: Who is Margarette?
Hi Syl,
I can see you have a large brickwall here. Do you know in which time frame Joseph and Margarette were married? I can't find any marriage which is likely in the 1837 online, infacrt there are not many Beckingham names Did they have any children?
In 1861 Jane Samuel was living back with parents Daniel and Elizabeth ROBERTS and gives her birth year as about 1836 her brother Ralph was born about 1832.. I have found Daniel and Elizabeth on the 1841 census but again no Margarette.
Do you know when the marriage of Jane took place ? Margarette may have been a witness. It does seem strange that Sarah was living with Joseph Beckingham in 1871 but where was Margarette? infact where were they in 1881?
I would put your plea to the list to get there heads together and see if there is a lateral thinker out there.
good luck kind regards,
Chris
Hi Syl,
I have looked on the 1861, 1871 census for England and Wales and can find no
sign of her. I have tried different combinations , still with no success, so
I looked to see if there were any SAMUEL families in Amlwych in 1841, 1851
and there were none recorded. Could she have been Married by then?
kind regards,
Chris
