My name is Hilary THOMAS (Nee LLOYD) living in Staffordshire.
My Angelsey interests are:
Thomas LLOYD (gt gt gt grandfather) born about 1790/91, this is from census information which is consistent for 1841, 1851 1861 and 1871. Place of birth is more difficult in 1841 he gives Caernavon and in later census Beaumaris. I have searched parish records in Angelsey Records Office at Llangefni and at Caernavon and have found nothing. He died in 1879.
He married Elinor CLOUGH, baptised 12th December 1790 at St Mary & St Nicholas church, Beaumaris. Marriage date 17th June 1814, with consent of parents? both of this parish. She died in 1872
They had nine children, all born in Beaumaris
Mary baptised 20th November 1814 - nothing else known

Hello everyone,
I have over the last month or so posted messages looking for lost ancestors. Over that time information has changed and it all became confusing.
So here I go again with extra information that may trigger someones mind.
My ggggrandfather was Richard WILLIAMS born around 1812 in Llangeristiolus. He was a Labourer.
He married a Grace GRIFFITHS. Grace was born around 1817 in Penrhos.
They had 5 children.
Mary WILLIAMS born in Llangristiolus around 1840.
Elizabeth WILLIAMS born in Llangristiolus around 1843. She married Percy JONES in Wales. I believe they did not have any children. After Percy died Elizabeth moved to Australia to be with her brother William.
John WILLIAMS born around 1845 in Llangristiolus.
William WILLIAMS born around 1847 in Aberffrow. Moved to Australia in the 1860's we think as he was only in his twenties when he arrived here.
Richard WILLIAMS born around 1850 not sure where.
Later on the family moved to Llangefni where they owned a flour mill or bakery.
I have the feeling that William may have left Wales due to tension in the family.
Sorry if I have confused anyone especially David.
Hoping someone can help with this family,
Regards

Dear list,
I wonder if anyone, Alwyn, Yvonne Edwards or anyone with an interest, knows
whether people on the list have joint membership of GFHS and vice-versa?
Perhaps on the next list census that would be interesting to find out?
I know that there is likely to be benefit from being in both (I'm not on
commission!).
The good thing about the mailing lists, though, is you can post a few
queries on far-flung lists and then unsubscribe if you don't want to keep
receiving messages.
It would be interesting to see what sort of cross-over there is.

Hello list,
Great idea to have a list census, here are my interests.
John Thomas born Anglesey probably1817-1820
married Mary Williams born probably 1817-1820
living in Llaneilian, Amlwch in 1841 with 1 year old son Owen, at Pant y Groes
John Thomas' father was Richard Thomas. Mary's father was William Williams.
1861 census shows them with the following children:

Owen 21 (joiner), Anne 17, John 11, Hugh 9, Edward 7, Grace 5, Henry 6months,
living at Hendy Gors or Hendy'r Gors, in Llaneilian
The Son Edwaed moved to Blaenau Ffestiniog, probably by 1871, where we know that he married Ellen Jones of Llanystumdwy in 1874 at Bethesda Chapel, B. Ffestiniog. It is likely that other members of the family moved with him. Living at Cwmorthin Road in 18
George Emyr Parry. Born Bangor Caernarfonshire. As with many of my generation, I left as a youngster, and for year Anglised, presently living in Pinner,Middlesex.

Her father was JOHN HUGHES c1824 Llandyfrydog, Ang. H was a Copper Miner, married to ANN JONES.
Anyone know the meaning or origin of "Dolferig." My grandparents took this name for their home at Bush Road,Y Feliheli.

Hi,
I'm Michelle Price, currently from Missouri, USA (my husband is a U.S. Air Force pilot, so we are "from" many places!).
I am doing research on my husband's family, beginning with his 4th-great-grandparents, Hugh EDWARDS and Jane WILLIAMS. Hugh EDWARDS was born about 1778, lived in Bodedern for a while as a grocer, and then moved to Bodwrog-Isaf in Bodwrog Parish where he died on 28 Aug 1826. Jane WILLIAMS was born about 1790, and married Hugh EDWARDS on 23 Sep 1809 in Bodwrog. After his death, she remarried to Samson THOMAS, born about 1792, died 26 Jun 1841. After his death, Jane WILLIAMS (now under the last name THOMAS) emmigrated to Wisconsin, USA with her children.
The children are as follows (all the children died in the United States):
Children of Hugh EDWARDS and Jane WILLIAMS:
1. Evan EDWARDS (1810-1810)
2. Evan EDWARDS (1811-1856) - married Anne Pace of Llandegai
3. Hugh EDWARDS (1813-1904) - married Catherine Williams
4. John EDWARDS (1815-1815)
5. Elin EDWARDS (1818- ) - married William Charles of Gwalchmai, Calvinistic Methodist minister
6. Elizabeth EDWARDS (1821- ) - married Robert T. Williams
7. John EDWARDS (1825-1897) - married Margaret Owens of Caernarvonshire
Children of Samson THOMAS and Jane WILLIAMS:
8. Margaret THOMAS (1830-1846)
9. Robert Samson THOMAS (1831-1906) - married Elizabeth Edwards
Jane WILLIAMS' parents were Evan WILLIAMS (1751-1833) and Eleanor WILLIAMS --- Evan WILLIAMS is a son of William PRICHARD (prominent in the non-conformist movement in Anglesey) and Eleanor WILLIAMS is a daughter of Richard WILLIAMS and Mary GRIFFITH of Cefn y Cwmmwd in Llangristiolus.
What I would love to find out is anything at all about Hugh EDWARDS (1778-1826). I don't know if he was originally from Bodedern, who his parents were, or if he had siblings. I've hit a dead end on him.
Also, I would love to know more about the Cefn y Cwmmwd family. I have the pedigree from J.E. Griffith's Pedigrees of Anglesey and Caernarvonshire Families, but I'd like to know more of the details - dates and places, etc.
And finally, I would love to know anything about Samson THOMAS (1792-1828). Like Hugh EDWARDS, I don't know anything about his background or ancestry.
Hopefully, some of these names sound familiar!

Interests of Emlyn Jones, Denmead, Hampshire, England
The various branches of my North Wales family all came together at a house
called Tan yr Aswy, in Dinorwic, Caernarfonshire, but all originated in
Anglesey.
Jones:
Richard Jones was born in 1822 in Llangeinwen and died in Bryndrain,
Brynsiencyn on January 28 1897 aged 75.
Richard was married to Grace who was born in about 1815 and died at
Bryndrain on 3 April 1898.
They had 5 (or more) children, one of whom was Richard who was born in about
1851 and moved to Dinorwic where he lived with his wife Margaret Roberts
Roberts:
Margaret Roberts (who married Richard Jones, above) was born in Tan yr Aswy
in 1853. Her parents were from Anglesey and were:
Richard Roberts, born c. 1818 in Beaumaris, died Tan yr Aswy 4 June 1883. He
was a quarryman, and may have worked when younger as a gardener for the
Marquess of Anglesey at Plas Newydd where he met his wife:
Susannah Crowe, probably born c. 1817 in Beaumaris and died at Tan yr Aswy
on 27 October 1900. She is thought to have met her husband when working at
Plas Newydd as a lady's maid.
I am keenest to trace the Jones line, but would welcome any information
about the Roberts or Crowe lines. Crowe is quite a rare name in Anglesey, so
I would be interested in absolutely any information anybody has about the
Crowe family as they may well be related.
Full details of all I know about my Anglesey and Dinorwic family can be
found on my web site.
Go to www.emlyn.me.uk and then follow the links to "Genealogy" then "Jones -
Anglesey and Dinorwic".
This will take you to a branch of my family tree which is hyperlinked from
each name to a page giving all I know about that person, with hyperlinks
from there to all the source data.
The web site (as with all genealogy projects) is work in progress, but
contains nearly all the information I have on this branch. I would welcome
any comments on the web site - just to know somebody had looked at it would
be good!

Jones, James and Philpin from Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire
Allebone from Cambridge and Huntingdon

Thanks Betty, thats a good point. I've not ordered the birth cert yet as I'm not convinced I have the right one.
I'm in touch with mums cousin, now in Australia, who is a descendent from the first marriage, so we are working on this together. Neither of us have got very far on this one yet though.
I'm slowly resigning myself to the fact I'll have to take the chance and order the BC. I've tried to order the marriage cert, but apparently they cannot find record of this, even though I have both names and the exact date. Hmmm. I thought this would give me a bit more info, i.e. parents names to confirm.

Dawi,
I think you may have the "ditto effect" on the census.
Jane, 19, UnM, Kitchen maid born Llansadwrn
Elizabeth, 16, UnM, Kitchen maid born Llansadwrn
Benjamin, 10, scholar, born Llansadwrn
Henry, 8, scholar, born Llansadwrn
George, 6, scholar, born Llansadwrn
Mary, 1, born Llansadwrn
I went for years thinking my Mary Jane Williams Hughes had been born in
Amlwch because all the census reports said Amlwch. Until the 1891
census, which showed she had been born in Liverpool in 1852--all the rest
of the household in 1891 had been born in Amlwch in fact. I think the
place of birth was misrepresented until she finally answered for herself
in 1891--up to then, some other member of the household had simplified
the birth places and listed only Amlwch. I got her birth certficate and
she had been born in Liverpool.

Subject: List Census: Williams
My name is Dewi and I live not far from the Black Forest in Germany.
I’m originally from near Llan-dudno though.
According to the Genuki site, in 1851 – 61 there were about 55,000
people living in Anglesey. Hence it shouldn’t be too difficult to
find a single Williams........
Back 3 generations:
My great grandfather, Ben Williams was born abt 1879 on Anglesey. With
his first wife he had 2 chil-dren: Nell (b:1905), Annie(b 1909) and May
(1911). His first wife died in childbirth.
He engaged a housekeeper to help look after the children, whom he
promptly married in 1912.
Married Emma Catherine abt 1912, probably in Holyhead.
Emma Catherine: Maiden name unknown, born Jan. 19th 1885, Bodffordd,
Anglesey
Benjamin died August 30th 1954 in Holyhead
Emma Catherine died April 6th 1968 in Holyhead
Between 1928 and ca 1935 they lived in Alderley Terrace where Benjamin
was caretaker at the county school. As the family got a bit too large for
the small house they moved to Williams St (or Terrace) - where they ran a
shop.
Their children:
 Robert, b 1913
 Benjamin Marc: b: Dec 8th 1916
 David Lloyd, b 1917
 Dulcibella b 25 Oct 1918
 Megan: b 13 Feb 1923
Back another generation:
Going on the suspicion that Ben William Sr. was from Anglesey, I found
the most likely candidate in Llansadwrn, 1891 Census: Mill Cottage
Llansadwrn,
WILLIAMS, William, 47, Marr, Cowman & Horsekeeper, born Anglesey,
Llangoed
Elizabeth, 46, Marr, born Llangadwaladr
Jane, 19, UnM, Kitchen maid born Llansadwrn
Elizabeth, 16, UnM, Kitchen maid born Llansadwrn
Benjamin, 10, scholar, born Llansadwrn
Henry, 8, scholar, born Llansadwrn
George, 6, scholar, born Llansadwrn
Mary, 1, born Llansadwrn
However, to contradict this, family story says he was from Llanfachraeth.
Another family story says that my ggfs brother, known in the family as
„Uncle Joe“ was born in Beaumaris Gaol. Now this closed in
1878, so the time scale would be right. An email to llangefni archives
confirmed there was no child of that name born to an inmate, so his
father was presumably a warder. Chances are he had left home by the time
of the 91 census.
Trying to find Emma Catherines roots produced:
Heneglwys, Holyhead, Bryngwran. Royal Oak St.
WILLIAMS, David, b 1847, gamekeeper, b Heneglwys married Dulcibella, b:
1846, Heneglwys
Joseph R, 1878 b Bodwrog
Dulcibella, b 1883 b Heneglwys
Emma C, b 1889 Heneglwys
Mary Jane, b 1888 Heneglwys
Robert John, b 1890, Heneglwys
I think I’ve struck gold here as the name Dulcibella occurs
regularly in subsequent generations, which is why I’m sure this is
the right family.
Ben Williams died August 30th 1954, Emma Catherine Williams died April
6th 1968. Both are buried in St. Seiriols churchyard. I couldn’t
find the graves in June as it started to pour, so I’ll have to wait
until next year.

My name is Nigel and I am currently living in Edenbridge, Kent.
My last direct ancestor to hail from Anglesey was my grandfather, John
Parry, who was born in Penmon in 1858. He was the illegitimate son of
Elizabeth Parry and his father was probably a Jones (not just on the law
of averages in Wales, but because his obituary gives his surname as John
Parry-Jones, although his passport, birth certificate and seaman's papers
only show him as John Parry). Some time after his birth, his mother
married a William Williams and moved to Liverpool. Elizabeth had at least
two sisters and one brother: Anne Parry, born Beaumaris around 1836,
married Owen Pritchard; Margaret Parry, born Penmon around 1842, married
John Williams and moved to Gwytherin; Hugh Parry, born Llandegfan 1840,
married Jane Thomas of Caim and was a sailor, appearing in the 1901 census
as 'chief boatman, Holyhead harbour'. These four were the children of
William Parry, born Penmon 1805, and Margaret (Jones?), born Llandyfrydog
1805. William was the eldest surviving son of John Parry, farmer, and Elin
(Ellen/Elinor) Williams of Llanfair Mathafarn Eithaf, who married in
Penmon in 1799. William had 3 brothers John, Thomas and Lewis and 3
sisters Elizabeth, Alice and Margaret. This is where I hit my brickwall.
There is a possibility that 'my' John is the John Parry, born 1778 in
Llandegfan, one of the sons of Richard Parry who moved from Llandegfan to
Penmon, but I haven't been able to establish this yet.
Best wishes,
Nigel Parry.

Emma Catherine died April 6th 1968 in Holyhead
Between 1928 and ca 1935 they lived in Alderley Terrace where Benjamin was caretaker at the county school. As the family got a bit too large for the small house they moved to Williams St (or Terrace) - where they ran a shop.
Their children:
 Robert, b 1913
 Benjamin Marc: b: Dec 8th 1916
 David Lloyd, b 1917
 Dulcibella b 25 Oct 1918
 Megan: b 13 Feb 1923
Back another generation:
Going on the suspicion that Ben William Sr. was from Anglesey, I found the most likely candidate in Llansadwrn, 1891 Census: Mill Cottage Llansadwrn,
WILLIAMS, William, 47, Marr, Cowman & Horsekeeper, born Anglesey, Llangoed
Elizabeth, 46, Marr, born Llangadwaladr
Jane, 19, UnM, Kitchen maid born Llansadwrn
Elizabeth, 16, UnM, Kitchen maid born Llansadwrn
Benjamin, 10, scholar, born Llansadwrn
Henry, 8, scholar, born Llansadwrn
George, 6, scholar, born Llansadwrn
Mary, 1, born Llansadwrn
However, to contradict this, family story says he was from Llanfachraeth. Another family story says that my ggfs brother, known in the family as „Uncle Joe“ was born in Beaumaris Gaol. Now this closed in 1878, so the time scale would be right. An email to llangefni archives confirmed there was no child of that name born to an inmate, so his father was presumably a warder. Chances are he had left home by the time of the 91 census.
Trying to find Emma Catherines roots produced:
Heneglwys, Holyhead, Bryngwran. Royal Oak St.
WILLIAMS, David, b 1847, gamekeeper, b Heneglwys married Dulcibella, b: 1846, Heneglwys
Joseph R, 1878 b Bodwrog
Dulcibella, b 1883 b Heneglwys
Emma C, b 1889 Heneglwys
Mary Jane, b 1888 Heneglwys
Robert John, b 1890, Heneglwys
I think I’ve struck gold here as the name Dulcibella occurs regularly in subsequent generations, which is why I’m sure this is the right family.
Ben Williams died August 30th 1954, Emma Catherine Williams died April 6th 1968. Both are buried in St. Seiriols churchyard. I couldn’t find the graves in June as it started to pour, so I’ll have to wait until next year.

Dawi,
I think you may have the "ditto effect" on the census.

Dear All
Well Done to Alwyn for the idea of a list census.
My interest in Anglesey is the name PERRY from Rhosneigr. My great grandad
Arthur Thomas PERRY was a coastguard who lived at Maesyllan in Llanfaelog
and then Hilcrest in Rhosneigr. He died in 1938 and is buried in the new
graveyard next to Llanfaelog church. My grandparents were married in
Llanfaelog church and I have a number of pictures. I have a book about
Rhosneigr and its surrounding area and would be happy to do look ups for
list members.
Regards
Imogen

Hi there
My name is Elvery Chambers nee Nelmes & I live in Perth, Western Australia.
My mother was Annie Myfanwy Morris born 24 Aug 1909 at Holyhead to David Wynne (born Bangor 28 April 1883) & Mary Owen who were married in 1906 in Holyhead.
Mary Owen was born 19 Sept 1880 at Llanfechraeth to Hugh Owen & Ann Parry who were married in 1870 in Bangor Registry Office. Known siblings of Mary were - Thomas (1871 Llanllechid) Ellen (1876 Llanfechraeth) Margret (1879 Llanfechraeth) Maggie (1886 Holyhead) & John (1890 Holyhead) - only 3 survived to adulthood.
Hugh Owen was born Hugh Hughes (changed to Owen sometime before marriage) about 1848 at Llanrhyddlad to John Hughes (about 1808 Llanrhyddlad) & Margaret (about 1808 Llanfaethlu). Known siblings of Hugh were - Elinor (1837) John (1839) & Mary (1845) - all born at Llanrhyddlad.
Ann Parry was born in 1850 at Llanfigael to William Parry (about 1814 Ceidio) & Ellen Owens (about 1808 Amlwch) Known siblings of Ann were - Jane (1841 Llanddeusant) Ellen (1844 Llanfigael) Tryphena (1846 Llanfigael) Mary (1849 Llanfigael)
That's about as far as I have been able to go back but would love to go further. Would also like to get in touch with any family.
Elvery
I am Kathy Heriford and live in Hartwell, Georgia, USA. I am originally
from Michigan.
I am seeking more information on my g-g-grandfather, Owen PARRY/PERRY who
was born 15 July 1812. From the Calvinistic Methodist baptism records and
the IGI, I believe he was born in Llanfaetheu, Anglesey and was the son of
Thomas PARRY and Ellin (or Elinor) OWEN. Those records also show he may
have had two brothers; William PARRY born 6 May 1814 and Henry or Harry
PARRY born 12 February 1819. Thomas PARRY was from Llanfaelog and Ellin
OWEN was from Llanfihangel yn Nhowyn.
Owen PARRY immigrated to Pontiac County, Hull Township, Quebec, Canada circa
1831. His marriage license to Adeline Merryfield is dated 23 August 1834.
Evidently the spelling of the last name appears to have changed to PERRY. I
do not find any record of his brothers immigrating to Canada.
Does anyone on the list connect to either my PARRY/PERRY or OWEN lines?
