Around the turn of the century (1902), my ggrandfather and his entire
family left Amlwch, Anglesey, Wales, to go to Liverpool, where he became
a tobacco merchant (as he had been in Amlwch) and then a "removal
contractor;" I think that means he moved furniture, but not sure. Their
home was in Kensington, Liverpool, and they attended the Kensington
Congregationalist Chapel (probably the Welsh-speaking one)in Liverpool.
He had been a choir director in the Congregationalist/Independent chapel
in Amlwch before this move to Liverpool.
GEORGE MORGAN HUGHES (1840Amlwch-1916Liverpool) and his wife MARY JANE
(WILLIAMS) (1852-1905Liverpool) had numerous children born in Amlwch, all
of whom went to Liverpool with their parents and married there. His
parents were JOHN and ANNE (nee Morgan) HUGHES; and her parents were
Master Mariner JOHN and MARY (nee JONES) WILLIAMS; her step-mother was
MARY (nee
GRIFFITH) WILLIAMS of Amlwch.
CHILDREN OF GEORGE MORGAN HUGHES of Amlwch and Liverpool:
(1) JOHN HUGHES (1874-1951), m. Frances (Fanny) E. OWEN. One child - May

(5) ELEANOR HUGHES (1885-1916) my grandmother, who came to the U.S. in
1915.

I am looking for a William Owen of Clegyrog Uchaf, Llanbadrig, who appeared in the Land Tax Assessments for 1783-96. He was married to Catherine Williams, and had a daughter Margaret in 1783, and Elizabeth in 1788.
In the parish register of Llanbadrig, on 30 September 1764 a William son of Owen Thomas, and Ellin, of Clegyrog Uchaf, was christened.
This seems quite a possible candidate as the age and the place seem right, but when dealing with such common names, I am understandably cautious about positively identifying this as the right William.
I would therefore be very grateful for any information that could either confirm or disprove this identification.
Thanks.
Hello,
I am new to the list and I wondered if anyone can help please.
>From family information my grandfather Richard CLARK was stationed in
Anglesey during World War 1. His children then around 11 and 7 went to
school in Beaumaris to be near him.
Before the war he was a stonemason in Blackpool and again family information
says he was "building bridges on Anglesey"
So my question is what kind of activity might a stonemason be employed on in
WW1, and why was it so important that it kept him safe and out of the
trenches?
Many thanks,
Ron Armour

I am trying to trace the maternal line of Margaret HUGHES (b 1835 possibly in Holyhead or Beaumaris) and who married Owen Robert ROWLANDS, joiner, (b. 1834 Llandeiniolen) in 1862. Margaret's parents were Hugh HUGHES, mason, (b 1808 poss Holyhead) and Jane (nee PARRY (b 1809 on Anglesey). Her parents were William PARRY (b ??)and Jonette ?? (b ??). Any information on this line much appreciated.
A number of members of genealogy mailing lists are being targeted by an
internet scam which entices list members to part with money by "quoting back"
their own messages. For example if you have written to this list asking for
information about the Jones family of Bala - you may get an e-mail stating
that an on-line genealogy company has just added loads of information about
Jonses in Bala to their data base. You will then be asked either to pay a
subscription fee or to give your credit card details as "proof of identity"
for a free trial.
Having paid your money or given your card details you will find that the
information provided by the companies (if any) is regenerated stuff which is
freely available elsewhere and that you may have great difficulty in stopping
payments from your cards.

I should be really grateful if it anyone has access to the 1861 Census for Llangristiolus and could check for Robert Hughes, father Robert Hughes, of Paradwys in 1863 and also Grace Owen, daughter of Thomas Owen of Ty'nhidiart Bach in 1863. Robert and Grace were married in the Parish Church of Llangristiolus 6 April 1863 and I am trying to find out more about the Hughes family. Many thanks.
