Dear list,
I wonder if anyone with access to Gwynedd FHS indices to Anglesey
non-conformist baptisms pre 1837 could do a look up?
I am interested in all instances of the surname GIBSON. My gt gt gt gt
grandmother was a Jane GIBSON who married in 1803 in Denio (Pwllheli) John
GOODMAN. She was born around 1790 from age at death.
I don't know much about her but a search of Llanidan - where there was a
concentration of GIBSONs - revealed nothing.
I wonder if the family may have been non-conformist as there were Josiah
GIBSONs around at the same time. I don't know if they were related but
Josiah became a family name from John and Jane's time. Intriguing. John
and Jane's children were baptised in Pentre Uchaf chapel, (CM) Llannor also.
Any GIBSON info would be much appreciated!
Apologies to anyone who subscribes like me to both lists and gets 2 copies
of this message!
I can do reciprocal searches in Brighton.
Yours,
Dr Ian Thompson

Hello,
Would anyone know anything about Mary Owens who was born in the Amlwch area,
possibly Bodednyfed bach. Her date of birth was either 1821 or 1822 and her
father was called John Owens. I have looked on the Amlwch census for 1841
on the web-site, and see that there was a Mary Owens living in Methusalem
Street at that time, but have no idea if the two addresses are the same
place. This lady was my great grandmother and I'm finding it very difficult
to find anything out about her as her marriage to my grandfather was her
second, so I think she had already moved from Amlwch before she met him!
Thanks for any help.

Hello Gordon,
I have just received a mail from you in answer to my mail, "William Williams - Llanbeblig", and it contained a virus which was detected by my AV program.
Regards,
Gwyn Williams
Please don't send messages to the list address reporting viruses received,
such messages cause unnecessary panic and embarrassment.
If you receive a virus message from a list member, inform them personally and
inform the list administrator (That's ME for WLS-ANGLESEY :-))
If you don't know a list administrator's e-mail address you can contact any
Rootsweb list admin. by using the formula:
LISTNAME-admin(a)rootsweb.com
So
WLS-ANGLESEY-admin(a)rootsweb.com
will get to me
GLAMORGAN-admin(a)rootsweb.com
will get to the Glamorgan administrator etc.
LISTNAME-admin(a)rootsweb.com is a good address to have in your address book,
apart from being a template for contacting any Rootsweb administrator, a
bounce from this template (which is not a "real" address) could act as a
first alert that you have a virus that is attempting to send messages out
from your address book.
All the best

Welcome Margie !
Unfortunately, the bad news is that there were an awful lot of Owen Jones
coming from Wales (I'm looking for one myself!) Are you sure of the
marriage date of your Owen and Margaret? If so a good first step would be
to obtain the a copy of the marriage certificate as this will tell you
their fathers' names and occupations, and also provide a check on the ages.
The 1881 census took place on the 3rd April, so that suggests a birthdate
for Owen between 4th April 1845 and 3rd April 1846, but be warned that it
was common for people to say "I'm in my 35th year" meaning they would be 35
next birthday, so you have to extend the range to early 1847. As it happens
I am going to be looking at the 1891 census for Liverpool tomorrow, so I'll
have a look in Dacre St. for you.

Hello,
I have just subscribed in the hope that someone may be able to help me. I have been searching for details of my granfather for 30 years and am no further foward, keep hitting a 'brick wall'. Tried lots of parish registers, census, poorhouse etc.
RICHARD JOHN OWENS or later found maybe OWEN supposedly born 13 july 1873 in Amlwch, Anglesey married at Holyhead register office 1898 MARY JANE JONES born 1877daughter of JOHN JONES(bosun) and ANN.
His father's name on the certificate is RICHARD OWEN residence 'Y GORSE'
His mother's name is not known by anyone. 6 son's knew nothing about grandparents except that his Mother supposedly married again to a man with surname OWEN and had son WILLIAM whom Richard and Mary had living with them for a few years from the time they married.
RICHARD and MARY'S first 3 children were born in Holyhead, from there they moved to Liverpool, then to Southampton as he was a seaman.
Grandfather always insisted that the surname was OWENS so was the man on his marriage certificate his father or stepfather?
Puzzling!

It has been suggested that there should be a period of "list silence" as a
mark of respect for Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother on part of the day of
her funeral.
The funeral is at 11:30am, on April 9th 2002, followed by committal in St
George's chapel, Windsor. The propose period of silence would be 10am - 4pm
(British Summer Time).
The observance of the period of silence is, of course, voluntary. The list
will not be "shut down" during the period. I would ask that list members
respect the choice of those who choose either to observe or to ignore the
period of silence and not to make an individual's choice the subject of on,
or off, list mailing.
