Sandy, et al,
Well, at first I kept silent because I have 3 counties, 1 HS & 1 GS, as
well as blah, blah, blah.
Then I realized that everything that's in the Archives for my WI
counties, I have to type up anyway! People send me paper copies, I type
it in, send the .txt file to the Archives and then format it all in HTML
for my pages! So, what's the difference? All it does is eliminate one
step, I can just upload directly instead of having to send an e-mail
w/attachment.
So, what the hey! I'll take care of Shawano & Oconto. ;-}
Happy Hunting!

How many files are uploaded on a state-wide basis? Maybe the work load isn't
as much as we think, if it's divided by counties.

Jan,
The workload by county will vary. The county with the most files, of course,
would be the hardest to take care of and that one would be Manitowoc County.
Shari has done a fantastic job with cemeteries in her county and the result is
many files in the archives. There is a directory for Manitowoc County and
then each of the townships that has cemeteries. None of the other counties is
even 1% of the work that Manitowoc is. A lot of the counties don't even have
files in the archives. Most of the work involved is letting people know that
queries are not posted in the archives and directing them to your county sites
via Robin's main page. I request that all files be sent as ascii text, place
a title on the page and a notation that these files can not be copied without
prior approval, upload the page, change the table of contents and that is it.
I can understand people's hesitation to take on more responsibility. I posted
to the Archives list a month ago for a volunteer to take on the complete WI
Archives but received no responses. When someone suggested that the county
coordinators assume the responsibility, if they could, I posted to this list.
On Monday I am going to post to the GenWisconsin-L(a)rootsweb.com list and see
if someone would like to "adopt" any of the unclaimed counties.
For those of you that have stated that they would like to help and take on
their county or someone else's in the archives, I will be changing the mailto
on the table of contents for each of those counties. I really am going to
miss working with all you great people, but it is necessary at this time.
Have a wonderful day!
