For what its worth - to the other WI listowners -
I've unsubbed and added to the reject list for Richland the individual
mentioned below. I've also changed my list to advise me when someone subs
to the list - not that I like to see more email!, but if this character
tries to join again, I can cancel him once again. If you need assistance
doing this for your lists let some of us know.
I hate to have to police my lists this way but I think I owe that to my
subscribers.

Hi Dawn,
The only thing that has come close to being spam was that guy who subs to
every mailing list in the state and then sends an e-mail at once. I have
gotten word from a cousin whose husband line matches one of the surnames he
is researching, supposedly. She wrote to him all excited and discovered he
has nothing to share, she then asked if he was after crashing rootsweb or
why he was sending the same letter to all of the mailing lists. He wrote
back that supposedly he is after crashing rootsweb and that this is nothing
yet, that they should wait until midnight on New Years eve. He told her
that there is no stopping him because he has several different e-mail
addresses and no one can cancel them all on him.
So, this is all I know of any form of spam and to my knowledge the only
way to get signed onto a mailing list, other than for the list owner to
sign you up is through your own e-mail address.
Good luck,
