Goop is also a hand cleaner, they are two different products. The
one I referred to is an adhesive. I am told that "Liquid Nails" clear by
Macco Adhesives is a similar preparation in case you can't find the
other. They both dry clear and strong and bond into the surface of
the semi-porus stone to make a tight joint. In the past, the black
adhesives used were unsightly and did not bond well with stone, but
they were an improvement over the concrete patch that only lasted
for about 2 to 3 years since it absorbed moisture and expanded and
contracted differently from the stone. When the patching gave out, it
also further eroded the stone surface. The old metal bands that you
sometimes see, particularly on tall, flat stones, work, but eventually
discolor and rust away. It is a good idea to ask how the stone is to
be repaired before authorizing it. Rita
