Nance, I don't know that many people have heard of CC Helper in Wisconsin,
so, I will mail it to the WIGEN Mailing List as a cc... CCHelper is a
utility program designed by Patty of Ohio, to make the county coordinator's
job easier in designing pages such as surname and query. I didn't use it
when I first started because I didn't know about it and once set up, didn't
have the time to research it. But, if it does half of what it purports to,
I am sold. (Something like 222 County Coordinators use it!!!)
So far I have it downloaded and I am waiting for a few minutes to read the
HELP pages that are at the URL listed below... One thing I do know, you can
still be original on your background but the format is a standard...
Oh, remember I joined CC Helper Mailing List, and the first CC Help mail I
read was so far over my head, I think it's trouble already!!! But, I saw
this individual's name as answering questions, Carol Askey
<askeycj(a)ix.netcom.com>, so I am going to ask her the following. What do I
do first? I am very concerned I will lose my old pages in the process!!!
Hope this helps. R/S MAK

CCHelper Central, the surname index for query pages, now
has 200 USGenWeb counties in the index. 184 of those counties use
CCHelper, 16 do not. If you haven't tried the surname search
feature, see
http://www.rufus.wright.edu/~plindsay/srchall.html
Many have found it very useful in finding a cold trail in an
unsuspected county. But 200 is a small percentage of the total
counties, and I would like to see that number grow.
If you are not using CCHelper, but are using some other form of
automation to index your queries by surname, then it's likely that
you could easily participate in this index. The minimum requirement
is that you provide a text file of surnames stored on your Web site.
The format of the file is one surname per line, the surnames can be
in any order, and there can be duplicate surnames. If you think the
process you are using can generate such a file, then see the address
below for more information on how you can participate:
If you are using CCHelper, but are not participating in CCHelper
Central, than I encourage you to do so.
Most of you are not using a tool of any kind to create a surname
index of your queries. You can currently participate in CCHelper
Central by using a Web page I provide to help create the index file
and then manually revising it. It does take some work and it's
understandable that most don't want to undertake such a task. I am
working on a process that will allow you to participate in a more
automated way than is currently available, so look for a future
announcement.
To learn how to participate in CCHelper Central in all of the above
situations, see:
