Michelle.....
According to Mr. Webster:
a DATABASE is:
a mass of data in a computer, arranged for rapid expansion, updating, and
retrieval....
Also, DATA is facts or figures from which conclusions can be drawn....
Soooo on our County sites, a database CAN be there without it being in a
cgi script. All it is is a compilation of facts that is there for the
researcher to draw information from.
No fancy scripts,......just a gathering of specific
information.....cemetery lists, census, anything like that to aid the
researcher in their searching.
It can even be in the form of plain text.
I believe it was Jan that mentioned it.....she was criticized for not
having enough raw data.....as I've listed for examples on her site.
I hope I've explained this well enough....

Anyways,
I need something clarified... please. I don't know which person it was but
someone who had a county in Iowa was criticized for not having a database
on their site...
can you please tell me how to GET database space for that!!!???! I had
plans to create a database and was told last year that rootsweb doesn't
allow cgi scripts. Now tell me HOW Iowa can require databases?!!
Am I, like, totally missing something? Or what?
