Thanks Mari-
This gives me a clear picture. Sounds like a good system.
I am not so much for the awards either - as people gettheir feelings hurt
sometimes and with all of the cc's having very different levels of website
knowledge/experience I don't know how this would work.
Thanks again Mari.

Sorry for responding late.......too many phone calls....
They ask for volunteers.....the CCs do the reviewing. There is a form that
has the requirements laid out, and the CC checks either yes or no. There
is nothing done by the CC as far as personal input, unless they write
something in the comments box. That box is used for listing the things
more in detail that was found to be lacking on the site. Basically all the
form does is make sure that the USGenWeb requirements are met. NO more
rules than what is required anyway.
When the CC is done with the review, they hit the "submit" button on the
form, and the form is then sent to the SC/ASC. They go over the site
checking the form against what THEY see, and make any corrections
necessary. So, basically, there are FOUR eyes looking at the site. If the
SC/ASC doesn't agree with the findings, then they have the last say. I've
not had one I did be contested, so not sure about that.
The SC/ASC...and again, I think this is divided up between them....sends
the copy of the review in plain text form, and lets the CC know whether
they have passed the review or not. If not, then the CC is given a two
week period in which to bring the site up to snuff.
It's not all that cumbersome, nor is it a "Bunch of rules" other than what
is already handed down by the USGenWeb.
Everyone needs to remember that this is not a "judgement" on the quality of
how the site looks. IA used to do that....and give an award...but it
became obvious that it caused problems, because some CCs just are new at
this site building business, and can't even compete. So it was trashed.
It really wasn't fair to those who barely know HTML and/or graphic design.
Some people have a knack for it, and some don't. As I stated before.....I
alway keep in mind that the reviewing CC has a different set of eyes, and a
different thinking hat, and may look at something a whole lot different
than me. If I'm happy with my site, and I pass the review, that's all *I*
care about. That, and putting information on the site that is helpful for
the researcher.
AND, MAK, it takes a whole lot of pressure off the SC/ASC! Double checking
a review is a whole lot easier and faster than going through the State
County by County and checking everything cold. :))
I hope I've clarified what you question, Paula.....
Again.....I'll never say anything against the reviews. It's done too much
for IAGenWeb and it's sites as far as improvement is concerned.
