Subject: [WIMONROE ] mystery church - interior photo
Hi all,
Please see the following link for a scan of an old family photo of the
interior of an unknown church. My guestimate is that the photo is circa
1890-1910. It comes to me via my grandmother's estate.
My scan is large so that the details can be seen. On the wall is
written "Now is Christ Risen from the Dead"...three hanging lamps
(gas? electric?)...eight rows of pews can be seen though there may be
more...the ceiling is angled into an arch...the windows come up to a
point.

I've had this photo for 15 years and have always been curious about the
church. Where is it?
My guess for possible locations of this church, based upon locations
that I know my family lived, are:
Bloomington, McLean County, Illinois
Dickens, Clay County, Iowa
Spencer, Clay County, Iowa
St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota
Hebron, Morton County, North Dakota
Tomah, Monroe County, Wisconsin
Warrens, Monroe County, Wisconsin
The bulk of my 100's of photos from my grandmothers estate are for my
family lines from Monroe County so that is my strongest suspicion for
the location of this church. My lines in Monroe County include the
surnames of Getman, Johnston and Lincoln...living in Warrens, Tomah,
Wilton and Dorset Ridge.
A subscriber on Roots-L mentioned that this is probably not a Catholic
church (as there is no altar or crucifix at front, nor the stations of
the cross along the side walls). One of my Monroe County families was
Methodist.
Does anyone recognize this church?? Would love to hear from you :-)
Best wishes,
Bonnie
