Hi all,
From Wisconsin's Past & Present Historical Atlas (p.17): Wheeler
Prairie was in Dane county, town of Dunkirk, in the 1870s. Looks to me
like sections 1&2, 11&12. The text says: "Dane County in the 1870s
contained many examples of rural neighborhoods, or communities, of
Anglo-Americans and British Isles immigrants. Names for these
neighborhoods came initially from the natural surroundings, such as
streams, hills, valleys, and prairies. Other names were derived from
family names or the names of the settlers' former homelands or
hometowns..."
If g g grandma was a Yankee or of English/Irish/Scottish/Welsh
ancestory, then I'd bet that's the place.
Hope this helps,
Lori
