All, I am passing this along to the list in hopes that someone can help.
I have not found anything yet and it does not seem to connect to Oconto
County. Thanks, Rita

I am looking for any information on the early French settlement in
Michigan and Wisconsin. I have a Nick Miniclier (and numerous other
spellings) who was born about
1827 in Ery. (no idea where that is). He is in the Southwest mining
area in 1830/ 40. He was a semiliterate half-breed who later connected
with a James Paul and moved
to Michigan. Would you know anything about this family?
I have a second question on another side of my husband's family. His
mother was a Corneaby who was also French Canadian. I am sure the
spelling is a corruption of a
French name, but I have no experience with French genealogy. Is it
possibile that the pronunciation would be similar to Carbonneau?
Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Teresa
