There has once again been a change in the Archives. The main url is
http://usgwarchives.net . This is the second move and was done to
facilitate a seach engine for the Archives.
http://usgwarchives.org will
remain as a mirror site.
I will send information out to all those WI CC's who are also FM's for the
Archives. If you don't hear from me please yell.
For those of you that link directly to text files in the Archives change the
ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ to
http://files.usgwarchives.net/
leaving the rest of the url the same.
For the file managers once I send you the information you will need, you
will need to download your html file. The url seach/and replace have been
done, so you will just need a fresh copy on your local drive.
If any of you have any questions please ask away. Its been busy of late
with all the change's but there is a light at the end of the tunnel :-)
Tina

Subject: [WIGEN] ATTN TINA and CCs - WI ARCHIVES
For those of you who have elected to stay on Rootsweb and have asked
about
the Wisconsin Archive accounts that we had on Rootsweb - all the files are
still there but the main URL changed when Ancestry did their directory
changes - And because of that, all the links on each of YOUR county pages
which pointed to those index pages are now broken - unless you recently
changed them -
So - point to
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~usgenweb/wi/wifiles.htm
or your new URL for your county which can be found by going to this URL
and clicking on your county. Then, cut and paste link from browser to your
web page coding.
PASSWORD problems with archives and the status of the WI Archives - At
this point, Tina will have to address these issues - I think it has to
do with the URL change as I also couldn't get into the server until
tonight and only could find the directories and not the index pages - but
I am not sure if this is what is happening to some of you other CC's or
what is going on for sure - I wrote the help desk, but should really have
deferred this to Tina as she is the account administrator and we all are
sharing the passcode. Hang in there, I expect Tina to respond to this
issue on the Mailing List in the next couple of days - just wanted you to
know that it is being addressed.
Many thanks to all of you who have responded to the ROLL CALL - I am
swamped with emails as I am sure all of you are. Please continue to let
us know what other problems you are encountering - If you don't get a
reply from Tina saying something you reported is fixed within a week -
please check to see if it is fixed and if not, resend back to the Mailing
List so we don't lose track any of your troubleshooting requests.
Thanks for all your patience - this too shall pass (grin)...
