Hi all,
I am just curious, whether any of my fellow cc's know of a website that
contains quotes from old tombstone inscriptions. (not the humerous kind).
I was visiting an old old old cemetery in Fond du Lac county, and trying
to help read the poems often found on these tombstones. However, the
poems were in such tough shape, that they still had a word or two that
we could not make out, even after the chalk rubbing, etc.
So, since I have the majority of the quote completed, I was just hoping
to find a site that might contain the full saying.
Any suggestions?.
These graves are all mainly from the 1840's and 1850's with only one or
two burials after 1875, and it appears that these people liked quotes.
And when the inscriptions were copied in 1975, no-one copied the
quotations on the stones! Now I view that as tragic, since it would
really be nice to know the sentiment on the stone. Some of the quotes
are rather bizarre or macabre, (this is an early Methodist cemetery)
and I would really like to find a website where I could lookup the old
sayings.
any suggestions appreciated
