Hi Judy,
I am not sure how Phil did today, I didn't get to watch, but as of
yesterday he was in 5th and wasn't that far behind the leader. So I think
if he had a good day today, he stood a good chance anyway. It is Nascar day
in our house. There was no Busch race yesterday, so that is why the Golf
was on. Normally we don't do golf, but since it was at the Straits, we
turned it on. However with the Nextel Cup race today, we didn't put the
golf on, we watched the race instead.<G>
Whistling Straits is to the north of Sheboygan and is located in
the area of County Trunk A and County LS or Lakeshore Road. For me it is a
direct shot pretty much from where I am. I can take 15th Street, which is
LS and it's about 10 to 15 minutes to the north. Anyway, Whistling Straits
was constructed in 1998, so if your atlas is before or about that time,
that would account for you not being able to see it.
The golf course near Kohler is another one owned by Herb Kohler. I
am not 100% sure, but I believe the one in Kohler was designed by Arnold
Palmer. Whistling Straits was designed by a world renown designer, I am sad
to admit that I can't remember his name anymore. Whistling Straits was
built on top of an old military training site. Before the golf course was
put in, the site was pretty neat to visit. Not many people seemed to know
about it though. Anyway, it had these thick steel doors and these bunker
type things. That was all removed of course when the golf course was put
in. The one on Pigeon River is Pine Hills Country Club and Golf Course.
Kohler Andre is a beautiful state park. My second oldest son just
finished putting in an 880 foot walking trail as part of his Eagle Scout
project. The trail is on the far south end of the park and was re-routed so
they could add more campsites in the future.
If you get the chance to go to the Mounds, it is truly a site to
see. It is beautiful and the wildflowers that grow there are just
unbelievable. They don't always uncover it, but there is a spot near the
front of the entrance that is encased in glass. We have noticed that they
have kept a piece of plywood, cut in an oval, over the top of it, but they
don't mind if you lift it up. I will be honest, some people don't like it
and get upset over it. Encased in glass are the remains of a female Indian
that was from that time frame. The mounds themselves are very interesting
to see though.
Ok, so no would believe I love Sheboygan County, now would they? LOL!

Debi,
I am an avid golf enthusiast and big fan of Phil Mickelson. Whistiling
Straits looks awesome on TV. But just where is Whistling Straits actually
located? I know it is right on Lake Michigan but is it north or south of
Sheboygan? My Wisconsin atlas must be too old, I found a golf course near
Kohler and one north of there on Pidgeon River but none right by the lake.
Is Haven on County A or is County A also called Haven Lake Road?
On one of our annual fall trips to Milwaukee we stopped at the Kohler-Andre
State Park and considered going to Sheboygan Indian Mound park this year.
Just maybe I could get my husband to drive by Whistling Straights.

Hi Listers,
For those of you who may not be into Golf, I'm not, so I figure there must
be others as well, I thought I would share this. This weekend is the PGA
tournament. This year it is being held in a little unincorporated blink
called Haven in Sheboygan County. Although Haven itself can be missed if
you blink, Whistling Straits Golf Course is literally the only other thing
in Haven if you take away the three bars. However the area around there is
simply beautiful. So, if you happen to see the PGA while surfing the TV
during the Olympics, you will see some of the beauty I am blessed with
being able to see any time I want to take a ride. I am about 10 - 15
minutes away to the south.
I just wanted to share this with all you, it isn't very often Sheboygan
County makes the news for something other than a tragedy,
Have a great weekend,

P.S. For those of you interested in the players, Tiger Wood did eat at
Luigi's. Luigi traded Tiger's meal for a photo with him. The big
news....... Tiger left a $20.00 tip. The same night Phil Mickelson however
left an $86.00 tip. Wish I was waiting that table.<G>
