Trempealeau Co. -

Washburn Co. -

Please update your links/bookmarks/favorites accordingly. Thanks!
I like these new URLs. They are clean and neat and pretty easy to remember
- especially after having been on Rootsweb for 11+ years (well, Washburn
Co., anyway)
So, why did these counties move? Because I dislike change. Sounds crazy, I
know. But if you knew what my personal life was like, you'd probably
understand more. Suffice it to say, 14 years ago I was given 7 years to be
on this earth. At that time, I made up my mind that I had to 'change'
myself and prove those Dr.s to be wrong. And I've now doubled their
prediction...and am planning on going for much more. If I have acquired any
traits from my two grandmothers, I hope it is their longevity. In that
case, I still have 35 years to go! WOW!
Anyway, I personally feel that by changing my life to be more consistent and
more planned out, I have increased my life expectancy and it has splashed
over into other areas of my life. With all the changes at Ancestry/Rootsweb
and comments on various mail lists that I have been reading (many
ill-founded, I know), I decided I needed to make this server change, which
in the long run will enable me to be more consistent. These pages are far
from perfect, but they function pretty well, so I'm happy. At the very
least, through this move, I have figured out how to code my pages so that in
the future, IF anything should cause me to again make a change, I can simply
and easily put the pages, as they are now coded, onto a new server. Or
heaven forbid, if anything should happen to me and I would have to give up
my pages, the new CC (if he/she so chooses) could very easily take over with
very few changes needed. I feel better about that, although I'm not
planning on THAT change anytime soon.
Don't get me wrong. Rootsweb has been very, very good to me and many
others. But with Ancestry coming in and making the changes that they feel
they need to make on the Rootsweb side, it isn't consistent with my thinking
and goals for my websites. My first attraction to the USGenWeb Project was
their goal - to provide genealogical data, etc. to those who could not do
research in other areas (counties, states, etc.) and to provide that
data/information for free. I simply do not wish to have my sites connected
in any way (even by name) to a pay-for site. It's as simple and sweet as
that. So my allegiance is to the USGenWeb Project first and foremost.
I will always be thankful to Rootsweb for providing me with the platform
that I needed to get myself established by providing me with a task to
do...to make websites and keep them updated on a regular basis. They
provided me with free webspace when I literally didn't know where my life
was going...I just knew that it was spinning out of control and I needed
something to anchor to. They provided that anchor. Thank you Rootsweb!
I also think it is important to thank Tina...for her guidance when we need
it. For her caring for us when we don't even know that we need caring for.
Also, for her patience with us while we make our own decisions, and for
being consistently patient with us afterward when we've decided to stay or
move. She always accepts us as part of the Wisconsin team and for that we
should always be thankful.
