Resently I looked into using the Library of Congress to answer a
query question regarding a 1930's publish article which featured an
ancestor's life experiences. The publisher's date was not known, and
the query writer was not sure of the name of the publication. I used
this to try out the Library's services and explore how they work. I
think this may have potential so I am sharing it. Here is the
response, which came the same day! Rita - Oconto County Coordinator

"Librarian Reply: We suggest you go to your local library to search
the author in Reader's
Guide to Periodical Literature. The Librarian can provide any needed
assistance. Once you have
the citation to the particular issue of the magazine you may request
a copy through the Library
of Congress photoduplication service if your library does not have
the particular issue.
There are two options for requesting material from the Library of
Congress:
You may request it on interlibrary loan through your local library.
The Library of Congress
does not loan out materials to individuals, but does send out
materials to other libraries on a
case-by-case basis. These requests must be initiated through your
local library. The Library
of Congress does not charge for this service; in some cases, local
libraries charge a nominal
fee for interlibrary loan. Additional information about this
service is found at <
http://www.loc.gov/rr/loan/ >.
You may purchase photocopies of some materials from our
Photoduplication Service. This is a
fee-based service. For ordering and price information, consult
their website at <
http://www.loc.gov/preserv/pds/ >. Be sure to include a
bibliographic citation with a Library
of Congress call number, volume/date (if the item in question is a
periodical article), and
page numbers with your order.
