FYI.
I participated in GenTech's 2002 conference in Boston. It was great fun!
This years conference is January 22-24, 2004 in St. Louis, Missouri. Read
on for how you can participate.

Subject: [STATE-COORD] USGenWeb's GenTech Booth
Hi everyone,
Just a little over two months from the GenTech conference, and, while
we've got a pretty good start, there are a number of fairly urgent needs
to make our presence at the conference fruitful for USGenWeb. We've
raised just enough money to pay for the booth and a small part of the
other expenses. In other words, we'll BE there at GenTech. The
question now becomes, "Will we have a nice display?" As it stands right
now, it won't be a whole lot to write home about <g>. We can do better.
So I'm writing this note in hopes that we as a Project will pitch in
with the same "Can Do" attitude that has made us the best all-volunteer
genealogy project on the Internet.
Here's what I need to make our GenTech display a winner:
1. People. If you're planning on attending GenTech, please let me
know. I'd like to have some assistance setting up and manning the
booth, and it would be lots of fun to spend some time with other
USGenWeb folks. :)
2. Equipment. We need a couple of laptops at a bare minimum. It would
be cool to have a projector and screen for a very visible PowerPoint
presentation. If no more money is raised, we for sure won't be able to
pay for internet connectivity, and so this would be a decent
alternative. So, if you are going to GenTech and I can count on you to
bring some of this kind of equipment with you, please let me know!
3. Brochures. Even if you *aren't* going to GenTech, here's an area
where you can help out! I'm looking for finished product, here . . .
flyers, trifold, half-fold, whatever, but already printed out and ready
to hand out. I'd love to see a brochure for each state and special
project - Here's your chance to shine! Counties and towns can make
their own brochures, too. If you'd like to send me (however many)
brochures, I will get them to GenTech and make sure they're available to
attendees. They can be mailed to my home . . . I'll give the addy to any
who are interested.
4. Monetary Donations. As I wrote earlier, we've raised enough money
to cover the charge for the booth and a little extra (and *many thank*
to those who have donated!). As of this writing, we've got a grand
total of $222.99. After paying for the booth ($150), that leaves $72.99
for everything else. We'd like to have a number of topic-specific
flyers printed up to pass out (such as "What is a CC", "How Can I
Help?", "Getting the Most From USGenWeb Sites", and others - we're
looking for more ideas!). I'd like these to be a little higher quality
than plain-paper copies if we have the budget for it. Perhaps a light
card stock? Color? Also, if the budget will allow, it would be nice to
decorate the booth instead of just leaving it as-is. We need to know
soon just *what* the budget will be!
If you read this far, thanks! So - if you are able to help out in any
of these ways, please contact me. You can also visit the USGenWeb
GenTech Donation page at
http://www.usgenweb.org/GenTech/ .
I'd like to say thanks once again to the Utah Genealogical Society for
their donation of a sign/banner for our booth, and to D. Joshua Taylor
(who will also be teaching at the conference) for all of his help and
for donating an ad in the conference program for USGenWeb.
I'm looking forward to spreading the word about USGenWeb at the GenTech
Conference! With your help, we can have a professional-looking,
interesting, helpful display that we can be proud of.
