I think they ment Clifton not Anton because I found them in 1880! He also
was born in Poland/Germany not Wi.(The 1900 census is incorrect)
1880 Census
Clifton, Grant Co., Wi.
LEPSKI, Joseph, 25, farmer, born in Poland
Emma, 25, wife
John, 8/12, born in Jan in Wi.
Next door
WATSON, David J., 30
Lillie M., 23, wife
Garty N., 3, dau
Charles C., 2, son
Minnie M., 1, dau
Here is a possible marriage record
There is a marriage index for an Emma Walton 20 Nov 1876 in Iowa Co., but it
doesn't cross reference to see who the spouse is....
They can order the record from the Wisconsin state historical society
The 1900 census says Joseph was born in Wi., but he is divorced by the 1910
census, and I haven't found him. His kids in the 1910 and
1920 census say father born in Germany....Would suggest that the person find
the obit for Emma to see if it says where they were married? See if it says
where she was born, or death record to see where she was born. Then might be
able to find out more.

Does anyone have a clue about this "Anaton?" I don't
believe it was in
Grant County.

My Great Grandfather was Joseph Jacob Lipska the 1900 Censuses say he was
born May 1858 in Wisconsin. He listed his parents birthplace as Germany.
There is no record of any Lipska's in the 1880 Censuses. He was 42 in the
1900 Censuses, that means he would have been 22 in the 1880 Censuses.
I have a letter, 1997, from Tina Townsend, who I believe was the daughter
of
Henrietta (Nettie) Lipska. Tina stated that their home town was 3 miltes
from Anaton Wisconsin where all the relatives came from before going to
Nebraska and Montana. She mentioned that the town no longer exists.

Did your GGF (what was his name?) come to the US between 1880 and 1889?

Hello Robin,
Thanks for the reply.
My Great Grandfather moved from Wisconsin to Nebraska in 1889. I can
not get anything from the 1890 Censuses because it was destroyed. There
was
a warehouse fire that a large percentage of the records were lost. Then
the
government decided that to balance everything and the rest of the records
were destroyed. Unfortunately for me that is a critical time in my
search.
I am pretty sure my Great Grandfather came into this country with their
mother and no father. Lipska is female gender for Lipski. So it is very
likely that my Great Grandfather inherited his mothers name when they came
into this country. I do not know her name.
I did get the 1900 Censuses but could not find anything but the two
girls of Frank Lipska in Wisconsin.
Thanks again,
Joe
.

So Joe, I take it you don't know what part of Wisconsin they came
from? Don't the censuses help you at all?

Hello,
My name is Joe L. Lipska and I am the West Coast, California,
Lipska's unoffical genealogy researcher.
My my Great Grandfather moved from Wisconsin in 1889 to Bayard
Nebraska. My Grandfather moved his family from Nebraska to California in
the 1920's. I moved my family to Oregon in 1977. The California Lipska
family has had a family reunion every year in 1960. We have between 150
to
250 relatives show up each year.
I have been trying for years to find family members from the
Wisconsin family branch. My research on the Wisconsin Lipska's is very
incomplete. What I do know. My Great Grandfather's brother, Frank, was
killed by a lighting bolt while they were in Nebraska. Frank's wife was
with child, their first son, she returned to Wisconsin with her two
daughters and gave birth to their son. The son, I believed was named
Joseph
Edward Lipska who grew up with his Grandfather. The mother remarried and
the two girls stayed with the mother.
If you can provide any information on the Lipska family side I
would
appricate it.
