Hi Tracy-
It sounds like you keep busy! When do you have the cemetery walks in Rienzi
Cemetery? I have a great aunt and uncle buried there and have never been to
that cemetery. Would like to attend as I live just down the road.

Hi Tina,
I'm busy too, and another 'sandwich generationer'....my soon-to-be-93 year
old mom lives with me now, and keeps me on my toes, and on my days off
from work, I get my newest grandson to 'play' with! Ha! We are just
lovin' it, especially because this little guy is one of those babies, that
you can just say boo to, and he will burst out in the funniest laugh.
In other things, I have started conducting cemetery walks for our county's
oldest and largest cemetery. Twice a year I hold my walks in Rienzi
cemetery. This is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the state, final
home for one of Wisconsin's territorial governors, who also founded the
cemetery itself, and ran the territorial government from his home here.
But the fascinating part of this, that I think all genealogists can relate
to, is that when I find a stone that looks interesting or different, I will
look up what I can about the people buried there, and have found some
rather interesting stories.........for example, one person's obit actually
was headlined "Dug His Own Grave" and then tells how the man had bought
his plot earlier, and wanted it lined with bricks (in the days with no
perpetual care) so he dug out his grave, and lined it bottom and sides with
brick, then filled it in and waited....for 16 years, before it became his
final home.l
I also discovered by accident, that when the cemeteries in the county were
all transcribed in the 1980's, by several different organizations, they
all missed one cemetery.......so I went out and copied the inscriptions,
and am in the process of printing out the results.
I am now known locally as the 'cemetery lady'. don't know if that's good
or bad.
have badly neglected my website, because I feel it's time for an overhaul,
and don't want to tackle that just yet. But my job hours just did a
massive shift, and now I have Sunday's off again, so will get back at the
website soon.
My goal for the past 5 years, has been to take a photo of every cemetery
entrance in the county. 10 down and 110 to go! HA!
Oh yes, and one other thing. I finally finished off one of my family
histories, and my personal copy shouldl be arriving tomorrow from the
printer. I've been in labor with this book for 5 years, but I think it
will be worth it....all 390(?) pages of it, full of lots of the Blarney
that runs in the family.
Now, what am I going to do this year?
