Rita - ahhh shucks - I'm blushing - thanks - I try - in fact, a decade ago, I use to
look to you and other CCs for help - it seems we all learned together - doesn't that
seem like a land far far away???
As for my health, it is really improving - And I have the energy to get on the email again
- and focus POSITIVELY on my genealogy sites.
So, personally, what have I been doing in genealogy?
My other half (Stan) - his entire family hails from a small county in Georgia, since the
1790's - the area is so small, that I am working with several of his cousins
(descendants from lines which married into his) and provided the much needed puzzle pieces
on how the HENDERSONs fit in - The results will be published by his cousin, who is a
historical researcher and has already written one book on Columbia County. It is exciting
for Stan, as his parents moved in the early 1940's to California and due to personal
tragedies have not been in touch for 40 plus years -
In the last few weeks, I got some great ideas from all of you - so, my WoodCoWI - is in
the process of getting a facelift -
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wiwood/ so far, I
love my "new" look - it is clean and the format, heading and footing, are the
same on EACH of my pages... And, I got a new search engine - so that is a good thing. As
I go through page, by page, checking formats, and looking for "errors", I am
posting things which have come in and sat there for awhile. Once I finish, I might ask
for another pair of eyes to look at it... My goal is to do Monroe next and Portage last,
as Portage usually gets first shot, as it is the most up to date - and Monroe gives me the
most feedback of all three. However, if anyone is reasearching in Monroe - let me
know....
OK, don't check my links, some are broken, but thanks to a new program that was
recommended to me - I now know which ones -
http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html
This is a great tool, even if you use a software program to generate your HTML - such as
Dreamweaver, Front Page, Tab, etc.... Cause I find the links that break are to servers
beyond my control. I had 36 of which all of them were due to changes on the rootsweb
server - so I can fix that easy - later tonight (I keep saying that - hee hee hee) and
then, I get a request for research - what can I say!!! So, I am guilty of some broken
links.
http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html
OK - now that I have SOLD all of you on the broken link checker (grin) - I would love it
if all of you could check your sites - and then post when all the links are fixed - This
helps both Tina and I, as quarterly, we need to check all of the counties, and make sure
no CC is missing, and the pages are still up and running. If you can't possibly do
this, no worries, just drop me a personal email - and I will check for you and send you
the results, so you can fix them. Also, if you know of any counties that have been
abandoned - let us know that too - right now, we only have a few counties up for adoption.
If you are using something else, please let us know. I always am open to new and improved
ideas. Wisconsin has a GREAT (the best) CCs in the whole USGenWeb - and I can tell you
that cause of the exposure I have had to other states...
And Rita, again, thanks for the kind words, they mean a lot to me -
