Well, I am certainly getting mixed messages here from the Rootsweb and
affiliated folks about my complaint regarding ads using message boards address
lists and concerns about who has control/access over DNA test results (not the
value of DNA testing), but I am being told mostly to just shut up, so I will
make no more of it. Back to my cave. Rita

The message reads as follows:

The message boards are available to everyone to use. If a person posts
a commercial message to a board, and we learn of it, the message will be
deleted. There is a good chance, however, that the message will have already
been gatewayed to the corresponding mailing list, if that option has been
activated. Neither RootsWeb or Ancestry is encouraging or authorizing ads
within messages - this is one that just got through the system. Don't try
to make more of it than it is.

One important point I am trying to get across is; Are the Rootsweb surname
boards now a venue for open advertising? This was
not a requested advertisement and was posted to an advertisement-posting free
board on Rootsweb (I'm not referring to the
banners). That makes it SPAM!
It was not an advertisement -- it was a a message seeking Hulls for a DNA study.
He had posted a similar message a month or so
prior and received several inquiries about the cost, so he included the cost in
the most recent message.
