Hi everyone,
It has been recently brought to my attention that many people have
never heard of the site, Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness (aka
RAOGK) which is located at
http://www.raogk.org/. The site is not new, it
has been around for close to eight years.
The purpose of RAOGK is to make the acquiring of documentation of your
research without having to pay for travel costs, hotel/motel fees and
trying to plan vacation time around research time. There are over 4000
volunteers around the world to do the legwork for you at their cost.
Successful genealogical research is based upon people helping people.
The volunteers unselfishly provide information available in their area
to those who live far away.
The cost to use the website is free, but reimbursement of the
volunteer's expenses for copying, film for pictures, etc., is
expected.
Their volunteers are people like you, they are not professionals and are
not listed on RAOGK site to do in-depth research. They have volunteered on
the most part because they have been helped by others in the past and are
just
"passing the good deed on to others."
Visit RAOGK, check out the hundreds of "Thank You's" that have been
received
from the many recipients of the services over the years and
the awards received. If you wish to check for a volunteer in
the area of your research, you *MUST* read the FAQ's for Requester's
before doing so, a link is available off the main page to the FAQ's and in
my signature below.
Good Luck in your research
