I am glad that many WI CCs responded to ROLL CALL - we can get to know each other better - AND perhaps give leads and tips for each other's BRICK WALLs - since most of us are experienced researchers and our mailing list is so quiet right now - it might give us a mystery or two to help solve. smile -
I know Tina's brick wall is John Smith - ha ha ha - I have a John Smith also (better yet - mine was in the Revoluntionary War) - I bet most of us have a John Smith somewhere - and none of them will be related, of course - ROFLOL

MAK,
You started this thread on the day I left for Guatemala (of course)! I'm
back, and trying to get caught up.
1) Give your name and county(s), and the year you joined USGenWeb WIGenWeb
Roxanne Munns, St. Croix (1998) and Crawford (2008).
2) Tell one thing about yourself that the rest of us would probably not
know, not related to genealogy.
My husband and I enjoy practicing kendo - Japanese sword fighting. Yes, we
really do hit each other with a large stick!
3) What is the newest thing you did for your county(s) - URL of new page,
URL of update page, query?
Cemetery pictures, a collection of funeral cards and obituaries.
4) What states/counties are you doing your personal genealogy research in?
Wherever I find a lead, of course! Plenty of places in WI, Germany,
Ireland, Norway, etc., etc.
5) What is the name of your Ancestor who is the biggest brick wall; keep in
mind, we are all adept researchers, so the more details, the more help you
might get.
Robert Munns is my brickwall. He is my husband's ggg-grandfather. We know
that he was born abt. 1811 in New York - and we've found some land records
for who we believe to be his father, also Robert Munns. However, it would
appear that Robert, Sr. died, his mother remarried (never found her after
that event), and Robert Jr.'s subsequent life is well-documented. I just
can't prove that Robert, Sr. is really his father, or where Robert Sr. came
from, the name of his wife, etc.

My husband's grandmother, Margaretha Schmidt Kaspar. Born in Galicia,
Austria (now Poland), came to US probably 1910-ish, married Gustav
Kaspar in Chicago (also from Galicia in a nearby town, have to wonder
if they may have known each other in the old country. There was only
one Lutheran church in the area, serving all these little tiny
villages). Would love to find her parents/siblings.

I'm working on finishing transcribing the 1905 state census for Bayfield County. I've been neglecting Ozaukee Co. for a while, but hope to get more news articles transcribed and, once retired, getting out to more of the cemeteries.

I guess what I would love to know is where my great grandfather, John Peterson, came from. I know from his obituary that he came from Norway as a teenager , but sure would like to know what area. I was lucky enough to travel to Norway last summer - just to get a feel of the country but would have liked to know exactly where his family had lived. With such a common name, I know my chances are slim, but keeping my fingers crossed!

Started with Washburn Co. in 1997, added Eau Claire Co. in 1998, took over
Barron and Sawyer Co. in 1999 but have since relinquished them (thanks

Worked a variety of jobs in my life - making calendars, bathroom scales,
rewinding armatures, making crowns and bridges in a dental lab and lastly,
working side by side with my favorite veterinarian, assisting in surgeries
and running the office for him. I was disabled in 1994 and now have 1
husband, 2 kids, 3 grandchildren, 2 cats, about 75 rabbits and a new 4 week
old puppy who is keeping me busy.
3) What is the newest thing you did for your county(s) - URL of new page,
> URL of update page, query?
I have collected and am attempting to type (not scan - so I can better
retain the data in my mind) the old county histories and put them online for
Eau Claire and Trempealeau counties. Washburn County doesn't have old books
written about it's history, so I am gathering and typing up old obits online
for that county.
4) What states/counties are you doing your personal genealogy research in?
I pretty much gave up doing any personal research years ago when I joined
the WIGenWeb project, but most of my research was located in Wisconsin (Eau
Claire, Trempealeau and Washburn counties, of course!) Thankfully, both my
husband's family and mine were well researched and documented in the 1800s
and I have never had to go outside of Wisconsin to make a connection to the
old family names.

I really don't have any genealogical brick walls, but I have been trying to
find out where my disabling medical condition came from, since it is
genetic. Haven't had alot of luck with that.

I need to find the burial place & death record of my
great-great-great-grandmother, Kari Gulbrandsdatter Kolbjornrud, b. 1801 in
Norway, who died in 1851 shortly after arriving in Jefferson Prairie
Wisconsin. Husbands name Erik Anderson Uggen, they had two daughters,
Kristi and Andrea. My great-great-great-grandfather sometimes went by Erik
Uggen and other times Erik Anderson. Family tradition says that
immediately after the funeral Erik traveled 50 miles farther west where he
built a little log house.
Kristi married Ole Hanson Korsdalen that first winter 1851/52 somewhere in
Rock or Green county. Their daughter Anna, my great-grandmother was born 5
May 1853 in Monroe, Green County. I have been unable to find marriage or
birt records to verify this information.

Eleanor Anna Hel(l)wig Breagel Franke - this is one of my great
grandmothers. She was divorced by my great grandfather, Alwin Franke, due
to a problem with drinking. She may be the Eleanor(e) Helwig who came over
with her father, Christian, 8 Apr 1867. I don't know what happened to her
first husband, Franz Breagel or when/where they married. Probably Chicago
as their two children, Louise and George, were born there. She married my
great grandfather, 12 Dec 1891 in Chicago and had 5 more children. She
lived with daughter, Anna, for a few years but no death certificate can be
found...

Shelley-
I had a real chuckle with your response to the brick wall question - as your ancestor must be hiding out with mine.

Ellen Pack here.
I host Chippewa; adopted it about a year ago, so joined WIGW in 2008.
I am an expert marksman with .22 rifle, so MAK, be nice to me. <g>
Most of my ancestors hail from NY, MA, Carolinas, and MS.
My biggest brick wall is from Ireland. I have much from his entry
into the country to his death, but can't find pass/ship info, or
Irish county of origin, parents, etc. Mr. James Scully, where art thou??
Glad MAK is BACK!

Can I have two?? :)
Simpson
Robert Simpson (b in Virginia abt 1837) married Elizabeth Winn (b in
Virginia abt 1840). Both families moved to Kentucky and that is where
they were married (Caldwell County abt 1861). They had the following
children: Susan (b abt 1863); Martha (b abt 1865); Sarah (b 1867); James
Allen (b Sept 18, 1871 - my ggrandfather); John (b March 18, 1874 - my
other ggrandfather) I need an email just in itself for this :); Robert
(b 1876); Andrew (b 1881); Charles (b 1885).
Everytime I type this out it looks so simple, but I hit a wall everytime.
The other one is Powers
Lena Powers (b Dec 24, 1880 Kentucky - no clue where) to a James
Powers. She married John above. Apparently she didn't like the name
she was born with so she changed it. We have no clue what her name was
at birth.
1) Give your name and county(s), and the year you joined USGenWeb WIGenWeb
Florence County (1999) and Shawano County (2001)
2) Tell one thing about yourself that the rest of us would probably not
know, not related to genealogy.
Not related to genealogy -- I'll have to think hard on that one! I
rescued and fostered Doberman Pinschers for about 18 years. My "heart" was Dylan
-- hit by a car prior to us rescuing him... broken spine in 2 places & his
left hip/pelvis was shattered & gone... the vets never thought he would
live & surely wouldn't walk again...and we were blessed to have him for an
additional 12 years. We taught him to stand, walk, run and my teenage son
taught him to heist his leg even... lol... He did everything a normal dog
did. Now we just have Gottlieb & his frau Emma.
3) What is the newest thing you did for your county(s) - URL of new page,
URL of update page, query?
Newest for Shawano: cemetery pages and working on Indian Schools... and
some yearbooks from the 1930s... and 2 new sets of older plat maps, too...
4) What states/counties are you doing your personal genealogy research
in?
Hubby's family is from GrossMontau, DEU>Chicago and my lines are in
Shawano, Oconto, Marinette, Manitowoc counties of WI, also NY, Canada,
Pommern/Germany, France & England.
5) What is the name of your Ancestor who is the biggest brick wall; keep
in mind, we are all adept researchers, so the more details, the more help
you might get.
Francis Edward TAYLOR (1850-1880) -- supposedly his parents are Frank &
Mary TAYLOR of NY state... Frank arrives in WI prior to 1870 when he marries
Sevle Margaret SAWYER in Little River Twp., Oconto Co. Story has it that
Frank dies BEFORE my grand-father was born on July 4, 1880... census was
taken June 1880 and he is listed. Frank & Mary Taylor is SOOO common and I
have tracked back each one that is a possibility and NONE have all the
critical points that would lead me to believe they could be mine. My hunch is
that they were from Canada and came down through NY where Frank was born...
and passed shortly afterwards as Frank has no siblings that we know of...
shows up out of the blue and "dies in the woods" just as mysteriously. But,
there is a twist -- my father was on the West Coast as part of a Logging
Convention prior to WWII. He said he met a cousin on his father's side who
looked him up in the brochure and said his grandfather was Frank's brother,
Bill, from Wisconsin... I've spent DECADES tracking that 5 minute
conversation and can't find a connection either. So much for having a common last
name! TAYLORVICH or TAYLORINI would be easier!

I currently have Sheboygan & Calumet Counties. I joined in 1997 when
Genweb was in its infancy and at that time I took on Calumet,
Sheboygan & Kenosha Counties. After about a year, I found someone to
take over Kenosha.

In 2007, from the months of September to December, I had to be
hospitalized 12 times. The doctors know what's happening, to this day
they still don't know why its happening.

I added a bunch of cemetery photos and the associated transcriptions
for both counties. Here are the latest items to be added.

Wisconsin & New York, The Wisconsin Counties are Clark, Marathon,
Sheboygan, Calumet, Manitowoc, Fond du Lac & Washington

My brick wall is my great-grandfather. On Feb. 7, 1868, he married
his first wife, Johanne Charlotte Schlichting, they had three
children; Maria born in July, 1868, William, born in December, 1869
and Ernst George born in 1871. Sometime after that, it is unknown
when, Johanne passed away and he then married my great-grandmother,
Maria Dorthea Schmidt on December 15, 1874. They then had 8 children:
Helen born in 1874, Anna born in November, 1875, Otto born in March,
1877, Charles born in February, 1878, Minnie, born November, 1879,
Edward born in 1881, John born in September, 1882, and George Ernst
born July, 1885.
In 1878 they moved from Sheboygan County to Colby, Clark County,
Wisconsin. I have lost him after that. I have them living back in
Sheboygan County in 1892 when Charles died, but it is unknown if
George Ernst Herman was living at that time. In 1884, the children
from his first wife were sent to live with relatives in Manitowoc
County and in 1904, my great-grandmother is listed as a widow in the
city directory.
