Thanks Linda for posting this .. I have heard many terrific
things over the years about the Allen County Public library. I
am really looking forward to attending and checking it all
out. I have attended many conferences over the years and in
checking out the program this looks like a great one.
Hope you all can mark your calendars!

The Allen County Public Library / Genealogy department just opened a
newly remodeled facility after almost 2 years in temporary space
several blocks away. I have not had the chance to get there since
they reopened, but I know that it is the 2nd largest collection of
genealogical materials in the U.S. -- right after the LDS library in
Salt Lake. It's a wonderful place to do research! Below ... from

Countdown to Conference 2007!
by Elaine M. Kuhn
***************************************
The FGS/ACPL 2007 Conference now has its own website! If you plan to
attend the conference, to be held in Fort Wayne, Indiana on August
15th-18th, you'll want to take a look at all the website provides.
Visitors to the site can view important information regarding
registration, exhibits, special events, lodging, and meetings. Check it
out at FGSConference.org.
While you're inspecting the new conference website, remember to take
a look at some of the other area websites that might make your
conference trip to and visit in Fort Wayne all the more enjoyable. For
basic "getting to know us" information, see the Fort Wayne / Allen
County Convention & Visitors Bureau website at www.visitfortwayne.com .
The Fort Wayne International Airport's website not only provides
flight and airline information, it contains ground transportation and
hotel shuttle information as well. See their website at
www.fwairport.com. And, of course, stay tuned to the Allen County
Public Library's website at www.ACPL.Info and check your monthly
issues of "Genealogy Gems" for more Genealogy Center news. With the
opening of our renovated building at 900 Library Plaza, there will be
many, many events taking place that will be of great interest to
genealogists and historians, including the FGS/ACPL Conference in
August.

Subject: Request to sponsor bylaw amendment
> Good morning,
>
> This message is being sent to each State Coordinator and Assistant State
> Coordinator in the USGenWeb Project. It is also being sent to the Special
> Project managers who, while not being
> permitted to sponsor/co-sponsor the proposal, should be equally concerned.
>
> For several years it has been known and discussed that our bylaws provide
> for a huge discrepancy in voter representation. That is, the SC/ASC
> members as a group, now enjoy a 10 to 1 voter representation over the CC
> group. The simple numbers are that 22 SC/ASC members receive the same
> amount of Advisory Board representation as do 220 CC members.
>
> In an organization that has been deemed a grounds up organization and
> where the CCs have been acknowledged as the back bone of the organization,
> this is a profound disparity.
>
> To all of you I ask that you review the proposal to correct this
> disparity. It is posted at URL
> http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/elk/2007amnd.html
>
> I also ask that after reviewing the proposal you bring it before your
> membership for discussion and eventual vote. A vote to sponsor/co-sponsor
> the proposed amendment change.
>
> Thank you for your time and cooperation. If there are any questions
> concerning the proposal or the numbers justifying the proposal, please
> don't hesitate to contact me or to address those concerns on the DISCUSS
> list.
