**Please Forward to All USGenWeb Lists**
Dear All,
The Call for Donations for USGenWeb FGS 2006 contained an error that
needs to be corrected.
The sentence, "Please note that your donations will be used to cover
expenses of private individuals assisting with USGenWeb at FGS 2006." should
read "Please note that your donations will NOT be used to cover expenses of
private individuals assisting with USGenWeb at FGS 2006."
Donations will only be used to cover the expenses as outlined in the budget,
not for the expenses of private individuals.
I apologize for the error and confusion.

Guess I shoulda looked around a little bit more. Here are some of the
lyrics used by the UW-Madison fans. These are geared more toward the
football games, but I guess I've heard a combination of many of these lyrics
and don't know for sure just what lyrics are being used these days. Either
that, or I'm confused (which is more than likely) as the high school I
graduated from (Altoona, Eau Claire Co.) used the music from "On Wisconsin"
as our school song and called it "On Altoona". If I remember right, I think
we had several different versions of the lyrics too - one for football and
one for basketball.
UW-Madison Lyrics
*On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!
* *Plunge right through that line!
* *Run the ball clear down the field,
* *(originally "Run the ball clear 'round
Chicago<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Chicago>
")
* *A touchdown sure this time.
* *On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!
* *Fight on for her fame
* *Fight! Fellows! - fight, fight, fight!
* *We'll win this game.
*
*On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!
* *Stand up, Badgers, sing!
* *"Forward" is our driving spirit,
* *Loyal voices ring.
* *On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!
* *Raise her glowing flame

Hi MAK,
Here is a little history that I found on this website -
http://www.wisconsin.gov/state/core/wisconsin_state_song.html
I'm pasting it here in case somebody else is interested in knowing this
stuff too:
Wisconsin State Song
Song: "On, Wisconsin!" The music for "On, Wisconsin!" was composed in 1909
by William T. Purdy with the idea of entering it in a contest for the
creation of a new University of Minnesota football song. ("Minnesota" would
have replaced "On, Wisconsin" in the opening lines.) Carl Beck persuaded
Purdy to dedicate the song to the University of Wisconsin football team
instead, and Beck collaborated with the composer by writing the lyrics. The
song was introduced at the Madison campus in November 1909. It was later
acclaimed by world-famous composer and bandmaster John Philip Sousa as the
best college song he had ever heard.
Lyrics more in keeping with the purposes of a state song were subsequently
written in 1913 by Judge Charles D. Rosa and J. S. Hubbard, editor of the
Beloit Free Press. Rosa and Hubbard were among the delegates from many
states convened in 1913 to commemorate the centennial of the Battle of Lake
Erie. Inspired by the occasion, they provided new, more solemn words to the
already well-known football song.
Although "On, Wisconsin!" was widely recognized as Wisconsin's song, the
state did not officially adopt it until 1959. Representative Harold W.
Clemens discovered that Wisconsin was one of only ten states without an
official song. He introduced a bill to give the song the status he thought
it deserved. On discovering that many different lyrics existed, an official
text for the first verse was incorporated in Chapter 170, Laws of 1959, and
it is contained in Section 1.10 of the statutes:
*On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin! Grand old badger state!
We, thy loyal sons and daughters, Hail thee, good and great.
On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin! Champion of the right,
'Forward', our motto - God will give thee might!*

Hi All,
I am still sort of wowed by this, but I thought I would
share with all of you something that has happen to me. If I wasn't a
100% true believer before, I certainly am now.
To give you a bit of history so you understand the story
here, I will explain in short what started this. Back early last
fall, a gentleman contacted me asking if I would be interested in old
photos for the Sheboygan County website. Many, many years ago when
the Groh Photo Studio went out of business, this gentleman's father
saw fit to save boxes upon boxes of old glass negatives. At some
point in time, his father had passed away and he found these boxes in
the garage. Of course he saved them and took them back to his house.
He wrote and sent a sample of what he was doing with them and even
though some were in bad shape, he asked if I was interested in adding
something like that to the website. Well, of course, I never turn
=anything= away that can be added to the website. So he set about
photographing the glass negatives and doing whatever he was doing and
sending me files of them. I started to add them to the website, I
touched some up with a wonderful program I have because moisture had
done damage. Anyway, I haven't had alot of time since November
between dealing with the holidays and then hanging, mudding, sanding
and painting of drywall, not to mention the constant medical problem
that continues to return despite all the doctors and specialists and
treatments. Anyway, I truly hadn't added anything to the website
since November 17 of last year.
Yesterday I was feeling well enough to be up and able to sit
at the computer for more than about an hour at a time, for some
reason I decided to start adding the photos again. I made contact
with Bob and let him know what was happening and that I was going to
be working on adding to the website again.
Today in my e-mail I found a letter that he included me in
to his siblings and other family members who knew the photos were
being added. He stated in the e-mail the following:
>As a fitting tribute to dad's penchant to keep all things old, Debie
>Blindauer has once again begun to load the glass negative images
>onto the Sheboygan County Website on the eve of this sad anniversary.
I had no idea what he meant and sent a letter apologizing if
I had added to his sadness. After hitting the send key, his letter
bothered me and I had wondered what correlation my e-mail and adding
of the photos had to do with his entire family. Knowing what was
truly the saddest day in my life {my mom's passing}, I went to the
internet and did a search for his dad's death date. I found it right
away. Can you all guess what day Bob's father passed away?
Yes, one year ago today, his dad passed away, March 5, 2005.
Now, maybe it is a true coincidence. However, with as many other
things that I could have and probably should have worked on or did
yesterday, to have chose to add the photos instead makes me believe
that a greater power had me choose this instead.
I just thought I would share this story with you all, I hope
no one minds since it really isn't WIGenWeb stuff, know what I mean?
Oh, one more thing with these photos, the best part after having the
opportunity to add these all, the vast majority are identified with
names. Now it truly doesn't get much better than that when hitting a
gold mine of stuff.
For those interested in seeing the photos that he is
sending, here is the url:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sheboygan/25.htm
I have a full cd that he sent to add, in addition to the
couple hundred he e-mailed. They include everything from landscape to
furniture along with the people {of course} and even their pets. andn
the end, I will add every last one of them. <g>
Thanks for letting me share,

Lori,
Congratulations!!!!! You should be recognized for everything
you have done and contributed to Rock County, both on the internet
and off. I believe that your words will make people stop and realize
the importance of the history and how soon it can just vanish.
You go girl, you are truly awesome for all you have done and
in my opinion, you truly deserve to be recognized for your work and
contributions.

I will help more this evening, if you still need it.

Thanks alot Debie. Yes, even after having the website for 6 years I am still
illiterate. I use FrontPage and really know little about anything else. I
can't find the the password either now. I have the program save the the
settings for Profil name, Host/name address, Host type, User ID and Password
and now I can't find the paper all of this was written on. Of course I can
see all of them when the program loads up except the password. Our basement
flooded two years and ago and I don't know if that paper was one of the many
things that got ruined and tossed. BUT I am still looking.

Tina,
Can I place you in the private e-mail with us, just in case
I can't help her figure this out, you will at least know what was
searched for and tried? I am only asking to move this private because
the mailing list is archived, not because I want secrets.
