Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Debie,
I have received several of these emails over the past few months requesting
a link be placed on my county sites. I did go look at
http://www.biblefamilytree.com/. and found links to Wisconsin counties, but
have not added a link to their site. I would like to hear what others
think about it.

Hi All,
I just received this e-mail, it was addressed to me, however he is
talking about Marathon county and that isn't me. I am not sure who this
person is, but I figured I would forward it to the list. I am real curious
as to how he connected my e-mail with Shelley's website.
Has anyone else received anything like this?

Does anybody know the answer to this person's question? Something tells
me the abbreviation may have something to do with either the military or
a religious order... but I want to tell her the right answer.

I have been following this since it first came to light. This little boy
responding to this soldier in unbelievable ways. He was calling him a word
for "Daddy" after just a short time and this soldier had it together. As
soon as he realized the little boy was going to be shipped out and that his
life would end, literally, after a short amount of time, this guy put a
team together. He had people working on each and every level possible. As
of right now he still isn't able to adopt him, however, it may become a
possibility much further down the road. I pray for that little boy and his
single dad every night. It takes a very special person to be willing to
suddenly become a single parent and to basically take on a whole country to
do it.
A little more not released in this article. When they took the boy to the
airport to leave the country, they had to do this under cover of darkness
and through a very high risk area. It is amazing how this all worked out
and how the people aiding him in removing the little boy from the country
thought of this little boy and not the danger they were putting themselves
in. Taking the boy to the airport was one way for the boy through the
danger, the same people had to come back through again. Although this part
has come through family lines, so it is very possible the story has been
altered, added to and so on and I can't prove it one way or the other, but
I was told through the family vine that the people involved in bringing the
boy to the airport were all close to being killed on the trip back as their
"convoy" of two vehicles were bombed at. There were very minor injuries,
but Bless them, no one was seriously injured or killed.
It is people like this that makes the world a little better place and may
others be touched by his story and try to better this world in any way they
can.
Soldier Brings Iraqi Boy Home
Associated Press
February 21, 2005
MAUSTON, Wis. - When Capt. Scott Southworth took
his soldiers to a Baghdad orphanage in 2003 to
befriend the children, a small boy with cerebral
palsy immediately returned the favor, crawling
across the floor to sit next to him.
"By the time we left that first day, he was
trying to take off my watch or to do anything he
could to keep me from leaving the orphanage,"
Southworth said.
More than a year later, Southworth has made a
return trip to Iraq and brought 11-year-old Ala'a
back to Wisconsin, where Southworth now works as
a district attorney.
Iraqi law won't allow Southworth to adopt Ala'a,
but he was able to bring the boy home last month
under a "humanitarian parole" that lets him make
sure the boy gets medical care and goes to
school.
Southworth, 32, who is single, knew the
alternative for Ala'a was life in a government
orphanage with little chance of adequate medical
care or an education.
Ala'a understands both Arabic and English, but
must use a wheelchair and can't fully use his
arms.
When he served in Iraq from June 2003 to July
2004 as head of the Wisconsin Army National
Guard's 32nd Military Police Company, Southworth
visited the Mother Teresa Orphanage in Baghdad a
few times a week for several months.
He says Ala'a "really adopted me." Then he
learned the orphanage would eventually transfer
Ala'a to a government facility for older children
and adults.
"One of the Iraqi doctors told me that if Ala'a
went there, there was a good chance his life was
over - and that wasn't just because he'd be
warehoused in a room; he meant his life might be
'over,'" Southworth said.
When he returned home last summer, Southworth
launched his campaign for district attorney and
his effort to bring Ala'a home.
"Humanitarian parole is very rare," he said. "I
don't know if there has been another case like
this."
Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton offered to help with
letters of recommendation, as did Sen. Russ
Feingold and Rep. Mark Green. Wisconsin doctors
promised to provide free medical care for Ala'a,
who isn't eligible for Southworth's health
insurance.
A few weeks after he started his new job Jan. 3,
Southworth learned the U.S. Department of
Homeland Security had approved the humanitarian
parole, and he soon was on his way to Iraq.
Ala'a was waiting for him at the Baghdad airport.
Humanitarian parole lasts a year, but Southworth
says it can be extended or other immigration
possibilities will be available.
Now Ala'a is enrolled in middle school, and
already has two friends.
"I think I've been the lucky one," Southworth
said. "He's making my life more fulfilling. I
think, maybe, my lifestyle used to be focused on
me. Now I have someone else to focus on."

Waushara County has seen a few updates in the last few days:
Burr Oak, Cartwright Family, Concordia, Old German and Bardwell Cemeteries
have been added to the site.
Added about a dozen post cards to the photo album.
Holden Cemetery added with photos of the cemetery and some tombstones.
Photos added to the Family Photo page for the Hanson family, a Hanson bio
added and photos of Holden Church.
Beginning a scan of the WWI Honor Roll for Waushara Co. This one is going
to take awhile - but, will be coming soon.

I was shocked to see the Minnesota births at ancestry.. i don't recall the
years but i think they are something like 1930's to 2000

I haven't plugged in my maiden name in the Ancestry search engine for
quite some time. I did it just this morning and was wondering why my
sister's and my own marriage records were there. They didn't come up the
last time I checked (months ago). There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or
reason to the info (or at least that's the way it looks to me), as both my
sister and I are only listed by our surname, while our spouse's full names
are there (including my husband's 'Jr', which he never goes by). It
isn't because we're females, because my uncle's marriage record tells his
wife's full name. Like you say, Anne, I'm surprised that these items are
there considering all the privacy issues, etc. Interesting!

Hi,
I just ran across the Wisconsin Marriage Index for 1973 - 1997 -- and yes,
Shawano County did make the index....
I was surprised to find it online (privacy and all) but it's online at
ancestry.com
Have fun,
Anne
