Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Well, shoot. I'd have done it if I had thunk about it! Duh!
Sorry Jan. Bad UTI and Cellulitis flare up again. Yesterday and the day
before were the pits.

Yahoo! Anne has been able to convert a file for me, so I'll be mailing her the two disks to convert, which she has so graciously offered to do!
Thank you Anne!
Don't think we will have a problem with the Church as they are old ones. 1868-1883.
Jan
Jan-
You shouldn't have any trouble since the records are so old - the ones I had
gotten were baptisms of which many of the people could still be alive.

Kelly, I have read the pages you sent. Thanks you. One says its like a tiff file, so I even tried that in my Print Shop Pro, but nothing. Also tried the Word thing and it comes up as all kinds of symbols.
I'm beginning to think it would be easier to retype it.
I'm off tomorrow, so will be calling the Church to see what they say about the files going on the internet.
Thanks to all of you for the advice and the willingness to help.

We are pleased to announce that The BMD Project has moved to our own
domain: http://www.bmdproject.com.
Along with the move comes a complete site overhaul. The following is just a
short list of the improvements added to the site:
1) Researchers can now add birth records
2) Researchers can add records to all fifty states, not just a select few
3) The search features have been streamlined, allowing for more efficient
and flexible searches
4) Users can edit their own records without administrative intervention.
They can also add photographs to already submitted records.
5) A new User's Homepage shows submitters the records they have
contributed, plus gives links for adding or editing records.
If a county coordinator or other webmaster would like to link to records
for a specific county, we have a page that will generate the correct URL
for them:
http://www.bmdproject.com/getURL.php
Permission is granted to foward this message to any appropriate list.

I agree with Paula, Jan.....
But as far as converting the file, what are you viewing it with? If you
can read/see it fine, then you should be able to do a "save as" and make it
whatever you want......depending on what you are viewing it with.

Some one sent me some files for Winnebago County on two floppy disks. They are wonderful files of records of the St. John Lutheran Church.
My problem is, they come up and read in a Pagis Viewer. I can see them on my computer, but, I have no idea how to convert them to some sort of jpg or gif file to upload to the internet. The files extension is xif.
I've talked with David Samuelson, who seems to be a guru on this file conversion stuff, but he is not able to help either.
Am I going to have to retype all this good info for the site?
Jan
If you don't get help on this - before I would retype them I would ask the
person if they can resend them in a different format. Most people do
understand and don't mind resending them.
I am sure you know this, but I had someone give me some church records from
a church in Waupaca County and they hadn't gotten permission from the church
to give them to me to put on the web. I had checked with the church to see
if they knew this had been given to me and the church did not. So I was real
glad I had checked first - so I would also suggest if you don't know where
this person got the information from you check to make sure they have
permission.
Good luck in getting the files opened.

Dear Fellow Wisconsin Gen Web Coordinators:
I am now a member of the bylaws committee. This committee is looking into
the bylaws as they currently stand and revising them to better meet the
needs of the membership. We are targeting the 2004 election time frame to
have all the bylaws reviewed. (XXX your fingers that we get through it all)
The bylaw that is currently up for review is below. I welcome any comments
or suggestions from you, the local coordinators.
