I have found this book quite useful in a general sense. As always,
look for it in your library, throught interlibrary loan, or in your
bookstore to be sure it meets your research needs and interests,
before making a purchase. You may also want to look for a used copy
in good condition. Several large internet Bookstore Web sites offer
this service free for you to compare prices and conditions of used
books to new. Rita - Oconto County WIGenWeb Coordinator
http://www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/
The name is:
"Farewell to the Homeland", European Immigration to North Eastern
Wisconsin 1840 - 1900. Edited by Sylvia Hall. Published first
edition for the Heritage Festival 1984, Brown County Historical
Society with the cooperation of University of Wisconsin Green Bay.
Third edition updated and reissued 1995, 155 Pages. ISBN
0-9641499-1-7
It is a book, highly concentrated in style and delivery, about
general immigration backgrounds and routes to Northeastern
Wisconsin. Contains several maps and charts with a good basic text
explaining each of the major ethnic groups in separate chapters.
There are a few old photos for added interest. Very specific in it's
handling of settlements, using many place names and the general
origins of the original settlers. Good, concentrated, information
is offered as to the reasons behind the various migrations, which
offers valuable clues to genealogical research back to the "Old
Country". Good as a reference and a fine "read" to better understand
family histories.
Drawbacks: Give very few surnames when discussing specific groups
and settlements. Is not indexed.
Chapters include the following primary immigration group
countries/ethnic backgrounds:
Belgium, Czech, Dutch, Germany, Irish, Jewish, Polish, Scandinavian.
Also covered in chapters are the following areas of information:
* Brief overview of settlers to Northeastern Wisconsin starting with
the fur traders and settlers.
* Brief general description of what travel was like during different
time periods.
* More in-depth description of what northeastern Wisconsin
originally was and how it evolved with settlement.
* The era of great lakes sailing ships.
FYI.

I have a little thought here. Looking at it from another direction, old Norman (indubitably a descendant of some aggressive Viking clan... Norman meaning "Norseman"; Man of the North, and Larson is as Scandinavian as it gets... catch my drift here? ;0) seems to know just where to poke his spear. He is a pro at this.
Norman sees you as an accomplished figure, maybe even a superior, and resents it. He knows you have put your heart and soul into this project, which means all the more to you (and many others) because it is not generated by rewards of plunder (profit).
Nothing like getting a rise out of a person you look up to in order to make yourself feel important! AND if he can actually engage you in a verbal sparing match for any length of time, taking your energy and focus away from a project that is so important to you, he is powerful indeed!
What a "fix" for an attention starved, selfish individual who lacks the ability to let others give from the heart. His ancestor's momma must have been scared by a sea dragon, and they have craved insatiable notice every since. Negative attention is best, because it come more quickly and is delivered with greater interest and energy. And you are more certain of being remembered.....for a very long time, with lots of residual emotional energy spent on you each time.
Wanna drive this little Viking nuts? Be real nice to him and keep sending ONLY the same short message of his lack of importance; each and every time he communicates. You don't even have to bother to read what he wrote, and it may be real satisfying to answer him without even reading his thoughts, given that he is not a contributor anyway. Don't even bother to sign it if you like.
" Your most recent message has been read and will be taken under consideration. Thank you for your interest."
You have a private website; you own it, and have offered public access and participation in the postings as a "gift" to visitors. You don't owe any of them anything that you don't want to. You make the decisions, period. He will soon go on to others to fill his great need to be gratified, so let him go. He is not important to what you are doing. Save your care, kindness, attention and energy for the ones who deserve it....like yourself (and the rest of us sweeties)!

Tim - I think it is a WI thingee (flying leap at

Debbie - I had a similiar go around with the use of

input and said that while I was unable to correct
other contributor's work, I would happily do
corrections on his contributions - would he please
point out those pages - surprising he did not respond

suspect he is a frustrated English major)
Janet - don't worry about advertizing for professional

delete the reference.

Debbie,
I just finished a similar round with two people who think they are the
only ones who have a right to do Clark Co. research........because they live
right there. I know, they sure wore me down. Neither of these do much
contributing either......what a waste of time!! I've decide to just put
their complaints aside and get back to having fun!!

Hello There!
Stop by and check out the new addtions to the Waupaca County Website!
http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwaupac/index.htm
It's springtime and the warm weather and traveling is just around the
corner. I want to remind you to post your family and area events on the
Waupaca County website. Family reunion? Class reunion?
I am also seeking those Waupaca area researchers who might have their own
family website and would like to post a link on the Waupaca Website. Other
family links already posted on the site can be seen at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwaupac/waupresear.htm.
I am continuously looking for volunteers or new information to be posted on
the website. If you can help or have information you would like to share on
the Waupaca County website - please email me!!
The above addtions can be posted to the website by emailing the event or
other information directly to the county coordinator - that's me! If you
have information to share but are unsure if it is something that can be
placed on-line - email me with any questions regarding this matter.
As I have shared in the past this website is "our" website and we can make
it a great place to share Waupaca County genealogy information!!
Thanks -
Your Waupaca County Coordinator
