Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

What in the "dickens" is going on with the message boards now!? I kept it
clean as this is public forum.<G>
I wasn't having any problem getting to the message boards or admin board.
(Now that I figured it out.) Easy and no problems. I made the appropriate
corrections to my links on my pages and now when you go to the message board
and admin board there are no messages there, just the top part of the
message board page.
I played around long enough to get the message board with messages again,
but of course will have to update the links on the website pages, but now I
can't get into the admin board.
I sure wish they would leave things alone.
MAK or Tina have you heard anything about this or will I have to email
Rootsweb about this issue?

Lori: I just checked Rock county and they no longer list me as having adopted it. I
did finally get Walworth and one board Dinwidde straightened out. I went again and
submitted a request for the Green county boards as that is listed as up for adoption
also. And the mess continues. Donna

I received this email and assuming that it is on the up and up. Anyone in Wisconsin know anything about this - and will there be any problems if we connect a page from our website with this info on it? Would like some feedback before I do anything with it.
Thanks,

Could you please post this to your web site encouraging others to get involved, and do the same in their area?
I would be most appreciative.

For many generations the genealogy community has noticed that many of the records for Calumet, Manitowoc, and Sheboygan counties, have been lost or ruined taking much of our valuable records with it. Further more many of the people who were born or passed away before our standard record keeping system was in place, have no record of ever being here, their only record of birth and death rests upon their eroding headstones.
In 2000 a group of individuals thought of photographing what was left in the cemeteries as a way of recording the valuable headstone information, and in many cases marriage information, from these headstones. As our work began we started to see the true devastation in the task we had started. We were finding stones that were unreadable, broken and in many cases completely gone. Behind many cemeteries we found piles of old stones that had been removed and were just carelessly cast to the side. Not knowing who these stones belonged to, and not knowing where they had come from, we decided to try and replace the ones in which we could identify and place back with the body in which it once stood proudly over as a reminder that this person once lived as you or I did.
But this still left a mountain of stones that we could not replace. This left many bodies who braved the unknown and built our communities into what they are today, completely unrecognized. This group then took on the task of trying to identify as many unmarked graves as possible. This has lead us to researching many different people and their lives, their deaths and who they were related to and where those people were buried.
In doing so we have located 3 abandoned cemeteries, and a possible fourth in which there in very little left to identify the humans who were interred to this scared ground for safe keeping and remembrance. The above mentioned cemeteries are just a few months work based in 2 townships in Calumet County. I receive reports everyday of cemeteries in counties all over the state of Wisconsin that have been abandoned, and are now in ruin due to neglect. Even in our modern cemeteries, we see old and eroding tombstones that age and nature have taken it's toll upon. We think it a shame and go about our day without a second thought of the person who has been forgotten. Our civilized society ensures our veterans and other respected persons are taken care of after death and through the race of time. However the wives, children, brothers, sisters and other family members are forgotten. Our service to our country may not have been as great as the veterans, but it is still just as worthy. W!
e soon forget that it is the woman who ran the country, and took care of the homes while the men were in the service. Many of these women and children gave the supreme sacrifice of giving up their loved one to military service. Many of these children grew up without fathers and uncles so we may have what we have today. For this reason alone, the gravesites of private, non-military citizen, should be maintained, protected, remembered and cared for.
Due to the above conditions a small group of people have come forward and begun the task of doing something to better the conditions of our county. And the Family Preservation Society came to be.
Today we are working on restoring the history of the county. But not the history as you would think. The history as it related to people. What individuals have done, and where the roots of their families have come. The trials and hardships as well and the joys these families faced as they tamed the Wisconsin frontier. To complete this task we have had family historians submit their own family histories. To date we have received many, and are in the process of receiving many more. It is simply amazing to see what people have done, and how they have over come the obstacles they faced.
In restoring the history we also felt a need to restore our cemeteries, and pay tribute in a small way to the people who worked so hard building our nation to what it is today.
Based upon the state of these cemeteries, based upon the contributions of these people, I now ask for the help of our civilized society in which these forefathers and mothers helped build, and make great. Today I ask for your help in renewing, restoring, and contributing to help save and preserve these little pieces of our history.
We are currently looking for people to help with cemetery clean up, and cemetery restoration, we are also in need of donations to help provide things such as gas for lawn mowers, chain saws, weed eaters, string for weed eaters, saw blades, concrete, tombstone repair and replacement grave markers.
We have been very fortunate to find a man who will make individual replacement grave markers for the cost of 35.00 each. However we estimate the need of at least 1000 individual markers within the county of Calumet alone. This gentleman has come up with a cleaver way of imbedding a serial number on the crosses to ensure that if they are stolen, we will be able to recover them, and replace them on the graves from which they were removed. This also ensures prosecution of anyone removing them from cemeteries.
We have also been able to locate a stone company, who will sell us replacement memorial markers near cost. However this does not cover the cost of the stone or the cost of having the stone carved. This year we are focusing on the Calumet county area, when we have completed, we will move forward into the Manitowoc, and Sheboygan County area. All remaining funding will spill forward into the remaining counties.
We hope you will join us in the fight to save our history, and preserve the sacred grounds in which we have interred our loved ones. Our headstones are our immortality, as long as they stand, so does our name, and our piece of history. As our society progresses, we all stand the chance of becoming one of the forgotten ones. One of the many that rest's in an unmarked grave, in an abandoned cemetery. Help us ensure that we will always be remembered, and the cemeteries we come to rest in are not abandoned.

Chapter 12 - History of Crawford County
- First Things is now online:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~wicrawfo/chap12.htm
This starts with the first road construction project linking
Green Bay and Fort Crawford along with other first happenings
in the county.
Also included on the site are population figures for the county
for the years 1820 - 1880 including the state census years of
1855, 1865 and 1875.
Tim
Lori and Donna,
Specific requests go to the HelpDesk. If the HelpDesk doesn't have the answer
they will either find the answer or forward it on to someone who can.
http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi
On adoptions, if Donna is still the county coordinator, she can click on ORPAN
and then Lori can click on adoption... However, NO REQUESTS for adoptions will
be honored prior to 15 Jul 2001... I am in the same situation, so I am going
to wait and email them on 15 Jul 2001 and ask to switch the account from the
old cc to the new cc... I did click on adoption (though), to ensure FIRST
preference if it is orphaned. Perhaps Tina can ask about "TRANSFER" requests,
where old cc what's to give to a specific person. Right now, the old cc must
orphan and whoever clicks adopt first gets it...
Hope that helps. R/S MAK

before the merger. I see that I am listed as having adopted them. I don't want
them but if you can figure out how to get them transferred, let me know and I
will help if I can. I also have some from a year ago showing up in MO state.
Hope we all survive getting thru this so we can see all the new "good stuff".

For those of you who might still be experiencing problems with the new boards,
I cut this from the mailing list (now over 1400 emails)...
I hope this helps, R/S MAK
IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM SPECIFIC ONLY TO YOU: If your question or problem is
specific to you, and only you, then post
your message with the HelpDesk (address below). DO NOT POST IT HERE ON THE
LIST, as others won't benefit from something unique to you. If the HelpDesk
doesn't have the answer they will either find the answer or forward it on to
someone who can.
http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi
IF YOU HAVE A BUG/TECHNICAL PROBLEM TO REPORT:
First check this page to see if it is listed:
http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/questions_bugs.html
If it isn't listed, and you think you found something about the program that is
not working as it was intended, post a message to this list with "BUG" as the
first word in the subject line. For instance, the subject line might read,
"BUG: International boards not visible from main localities page." Then give
a brief explanation, including any details that we'll need to include with our
report to the tech staff (URLs, search terms, which board/post, etc.) As I get
updates/status reports, I'll post them back to the list at the same time I
update the page.
IF YOU WANT MANAGEMENT TO HEAR YOUR CONCERNS, COMMENTS, OR SUGGESTIONS:
If you would like to voice your concerns, comments (good or bad), or
suggestions, send an e-mail to webmaster(a)rootsweb.com with LISTEN as the first
word in the subject line (or post it to the HelpDesk, with LISTEN as the first
word). All the messages will be batched and sent to management exactly as
received. PLEASE DO NOT POST THEM TO THE LIST.
