Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Gee,
lots of these requests sound like many I filter through daily--Green Lake
County does not officially seem to have an official government/chamber of
commerce web site, and being a popular tourist destination, I routinely get
things like:
What's the best campground?
Where is the Amish auction being held this Saturday?
Does (fill in the blank) have an indoor or outdoor swimming pool?
Give me the addresses and phone numbers of all the realtors in (fill in the
blank)
What is the best local ISP in (fill in the blank) while I am there this summer?
I am sure requests for hotel reservations will be coming soon! Makes me
think I should start a travel agency.

Hi Rita,
Well now that sounds like the letter I received today asking if I would so
kindly make reservations at the Holiday Inn Express here in Sheboygan. It
is long distance for them after all. Fella said if I was willing to do this
for him, he would send his credit card number to me so I could use it for
the reservation. I thought that was either awful trusting or I would be
walking right into a nightmare somewhere down the road. I didn't want to
get into the middle of this, so I sent him the 800 number.
As for the land on the lake person, well you can always send him to the
Register of Deeds and he can ask them to look up the land information using
the name. I do like your idea of combining the two requests though.
Hey, we are not only website coordinators, we are secretaries and you
basically name it people also. ;)
Have a great weekend,
Debie
I thought I would share these two letters. I received one yesterday and
one today. At the very top of the Oconto County Home Page it says very
clearly "Genealogy and Family History", but who reads the directions!?
>Years ago my father purchased land on leigh flowage. After my
> father passed away, my mother has continued to pay the property
taxes. I am
> at a point in my life where I may want to build a retirement cottage
on the
> land. I am trying to find the location, property size, and any
information
> regarding laws and regulations with building a cottage.
>
> Do you have any advice on where I can get this information.
>
> Thanks, Rick
If his dad bought more land on a lake and his mom has paid the taxes all
these years, I am definitely up for adoption!
>Hi Rita. I am looking for an ansewer for reservations in Oconto for
the North Shore >Campground. Dates are July 14 & 15. Could you please
respond as soon as possible >so we can start to get ready to go.
>Thank you and God Bless
Hey!! I know someone who has land on Leigh Flowage!! Wonder if I should
get them together to work something out??? Have a good weekend, all of
you. Rita :0) - Oconto County
Well this was awfully nice to get tonight.....

To Whom it May Concern:
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you and your staff what a
truly wonderful project you have here. I was extremely fortunate to find
scanned-in copies of the original census forms for 1870 for Door and
Kewaunee counties in Wisconsin.
It is because of your site that I was able to account for each and every
ancestor who was alive at that time.
When I first discovered family members' names at around midnight last night,
I actually started to cry.....from pure joy!! The information your site
contains is very, very beneficial to people researching family history and
being able to see actual images of the census forms made it even more
special, especially to our family.
Thank you again, and (if possible) please pass this on to whoever was
involved in getting those images online for Door and Kewaunee counties in
Wisconsin from 1870.
Sincerely,
Trina Rabida

Forgot to thank Maria Johnson of Yuma, AZ for providing a large number of
the headstone photos used for the site. THANK YOU Maria!!!!

The month of June was a busy one for the Waupaca County Genealogy Website
with the following information being added.
Links to "Men of Progress", cemetery locator, funeral home locator,
Wisconsin Chat, locator for US cities, etc.
New pages on the website are the Military and Wisconsin Veterans Home page.
Also added were 157 biographies of people who lived in Waupaca County prior
to 1888. These biographies were from the "History of Northern Wisconsin"
book. The Wisconsin Pre 1907 Death Index Waupaca County surnames beginning
with the letters D and E were added and the 1889 plat maps of the townships
and city/towns of Waupaca County were placed on the website.
These pages can be found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiwaupac/index.htm
If there is information, a project, photos, etc. that you would like to see
on this website or would like to volunteer to help-please contact me at
pajolova(a)hotmail.com. This website is to help you the family researchers
and your input is greatly appreciated.
I am currently working many ideas so please check back often for new
additions.
