Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
There are two more new items that have just been uploaded to
the Eau Claire Co. archives page.
The first one is in the category of "Directories" and is the
1932 Business Directory of the town of Augusta located at
ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/wi/eauclaire/directories/1932aubd.txt
The second item that was uploaded this morning is a part of
a new category and is the first of many items that will be
uploaded to this category -- "SCHOOLS"! Here I will be
including histories, lists of graduates, etc. And the first
item is the History of Russell Corners School, 1862 - 1962
The file for this history can be located at
ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/wi/eauclaire/schools/ruscorhi.txt
This particular history includes names of the founding
families and a complete listing of the teachers from 1862
through 1962. It's a 'must-see' for those who have families
in the Augusta area.
Have fun with these and be on the lookout for more!

I received a very nice message yesterday that I thought I
would pass along to you all. Here it is:
Dear Nance,
I have been searching for Abram Coon in Eau Claire County
for some time
and found him today on your site! I'll need to check more
original
documents to be sure it is the Abram Coon I seek, but I'm
pretty sure.
Also, I've been tortured by a poorly written 1860 census
entry for my
John F. Stone family in Bridge Creek, Eau Claire, WI. I
thought it
looked like "Hortoutice" but thought what kind of name is
that?! Today,
on your site, I found an enlisted man whose age would match
with the
name Hortentio Stone. At last!
I can't thank you enough for the work you have done. You
are blessing
families all over the world. May God bless you.
Warm Regards,
Kathy Jensen
+++++++++++
The items that Kathy found were in records that were donated
by other people (Thanks Joy, Tina and Cheryl!). I wrote
Kathy back and encouraged her to consider donating
information to our project -- which is what I will continue
to do to help Wisconsin become a major contributor to the
USGenWeb Archives project!
Just had to share this with you all. Thanks!

A great family history story has been submitted to the
Burnett County Archives. It is on the CORNELISON family of
Aaron, in Rusk Township. If you want to know what life was
like in the early days of Northwestern Wisconsin, stop by
and read this interesting story. It's located at:

Hi all,
The Page guidelines that are posted on
http://www.rootsweb.com/~wigenweb/volunteer.html are a combination of
the USGenWeb Project By-laws and the USGenWeb Project Info for
Volunteers located at
http://www.usgenweb.org/volunteers/countypage.html and
http://www.usgenweb.org/official/bylaws.html respectively.
Part of the decision we face is the definition of bylaws vs.
guidelines. That is why this discussion was brought to the list, for
resolution, guidance, and consensus from the group as a whole.
Creativity, autonomy, sense of teamwork is what the bottom line
discussion is all about.
The motions presented will add further definition and clarity to the
guidelines posted and will serve as a tool for all of us to use in the
administration of our pages. By bringing these to vote we can put to
rest these lingering questions, and provide a mechanism for dealing
with future issues should they arise.
Discussion of these motions will continue until Monday, March 22,
2000. Voting will begin on Wednesday, March 23, 2000, and continue
until Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at 9 PM EST. All CC's and Co-CC's
will have one vote each, majority voting will rule, and the volunteers
page updated accordingly. Submission of logos for consideration will
be accepted until Monday, March 22, 2000, and the URL for the
submitted logos will be available on-line prior to the vote
commencing. I will announce the method of voting prior to the start.

M, I am amazed at how people don't understand that speed has alot to do with
their servers, their modeum, and their choices (grin). WOW, did he mention how
great the site was once it loaded??? Or the LOW FEES, oh it's FREE? Probably
not... I also like the lake one and with COX cable loads like nothing flat
(grin)... There is always someone out there to bitch a fit, no matter what.
AS for choices, that is why I asked for a vote. Democracy can be a great
thing. Liked the comments about the IL voting system. Has merit. R/S MAK

We are already using the USGenWeb Logo, and it seems to make
sense (to some
people) to add the WIGenWEb Logo (some people are using them
and NONE of us
voted on it or agreed to it, we just sorta did it, and now
there is a
hodgepodge of stuff, but NONE of it is offical without a
vote).
Besides, all WI CC's will have the right to vote whether
mandatory use for the
logo/banner is IN or OUT. If we vote YES on it, then all WI
CCs have the right
to vote on what logo to use. [I made a joke about the cow,
as the SC and I
have a great working relationship and can poke alittle fun
at each other
without having to explain it is in jest. But if it is voted
in, I WILL use
it.] Also, I stated for the MAIN page, not all the pages,
but if the WI CC
wanted to use it on each, they could.
And I reply to this:
Here is an excerpt from an email posted by our SC back in
December, and the way I read it, we have not had the choice,
but have been instructed to comply or suffer the
consequences, (VBG) although, I have not found out yet as to
what they would be.
Excerpt begin -------
Every page must have a pointer to the Wisconsin State Page,
and must display
the
USGenWeb Logo and the WIGenWeb Logo. These logos are
available at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~wigenweb/graphics.html. Please
have these logos
and links to the state page in place by January 15, 2000.
End excerpt --------
Just my two cents worth, and by no means meant to offend
anyone, just reposting the e-letter and wondering.
This is my personal view only and does not neccesarily
convey the views of my CO-CCs or anyone else.

All,
In IL, where I am also a CC, they:
* announce a vote,
* take about a week for discussion on the ILGen list,
* call for the vote,
* give about 5-7 days for voting, then
* close the voting.
Voting is over at a specific time, on a specific day.
Votes are submitted either to the list or one of 2 people, who copy each
other on all votes and cross-check each other's counts.
Usually, the SC knows who is out of town, ill or otherwise out of the
loop, and can contact them, if necessary.
It seems to work well.
Just a suggestion. Take what you like & leave the rest. ;-)
