Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Wow, I just logged on for a quiet night of eMail reading and had 27
unread [WIGEN-L]messages staring me in the face. I'm shocked and
very angry that a hard working VOLUNTEER has to leave an organization
under these circumstances. This is supposed to be helping sort of
organization. Volunteers come forward out of the goodness of their
heart and a love for the work they do for no personal gain. This is
terrible.
Vicki, I don't know if I am the only "retread" CC in Wisconsin,
coming back after some medical problems for which I had to resign.
But I missed the great group we all were and I appreciate all the
"outside the List" eMail help you have given me allowing me to get
back to speed. You may not feel you are able to come back to this
organization, but I hope the door is not closed completely. Either
scenario, temporary or permanent, don't leave the genealogy field,
you are too good.
I won't say goodbye because I would like to keep in touch. I also
have some Native American interest (some on my homepage) and I would
like to meet you again on another trail.
Later.....................Dale, Buffalo & Trempealeau CC

Hi all.
This is a good thought. I wish Vicki and Bonnie well.
We have experienced changes over the last few weeks. Choices people make are
their own, for whatever reason.
I look forward to working with you as the WI USGenWeb Project moves forward.
If I can help in any way, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Hi Shari and all!
Well, it is not going to be quite so simple. Based on the rootsweb bylaws,
we have to have an election <sigh>
Guess first we ought to know if anyone is interested in the job. If only
one is interested, then maybe we can bypass all the formalities.
Because of all of this political stuff, once the SC is replaced, I will be
moving on. I tend to remain where things are fun. This is no longer fun.
Ok, how about a show of hands, how many want to be the new SC? Please reply
to the list.
As for campaigning, nominations etc... Someone better jump in here and take
over pretty darn quick cause I won't have anything to do with all that
nonsense.

Yes it does seem as RW is losing a lot of people to ALHN lately.
I noticed she had MI state page for ALHN and her site was updated
on the 6th, guess that mite explain a little as to the quietness
here from her.
I guess now we get to elect new SC right? Are we going to do the
7-7-7 techinque that most have used at RW? (7 days to nominate -
7 days to campaign - 7 days for each CC to vote) Also are we
going to hold as other states where each CC gets one vote, in
other words if you have 4 counties you get one vote, and if there
are two CCs in one county they both get a vote?
And are we going to impose a cutoff date for newbie CCs so anyone
not here prior to Sept or when ever cannot be nominated - as
others also have done?

Robin, you echo my sentiments completely. This is SUPPOSED to be a
volunteer effort and in that vein, we don't need politics, by-laws and
someone trying to tell everyone what to do and when. As far as I'm
concerned, they can shove all that garbage and let us do what we know
best. Put information online for researchers, without elections etc.

Congrats are not necessary. I simply don't have time for this right now. It
could not have come at a worse time. We don't have bylaws, never needed or
wanted them. If I'm going to have to go through all this rigamarole then I
also am going to have step down as ASC/SC. In the good old days, someone
volunteered and did the job. They were not running a country, just a
website, so there was no need for elections. If someone wants to come over
to WI and play politics, have at it.
Robin
Okay, I thought it better to just walk away, but everyone keeps asking why
did I go.
Take your pick - all played part in my decision: politics, the hassels with
elections, by-laws, watching the USGenWeb project becoming the RootsWeb
project, remembering which CCs have refused to subscribe to the mandatory
state list and to copy to them any messages I send, even trying to get the
logo to reflect the name of the project was more trouble than it was worth.
In total, this is not fun anymore.
Right now I'm doing pages for ALHN in Michigan, and working on my Native
American sites - I'm still helping researchers and it's back to being fun.
It's not any of you I am leaving. You have all been great and I'd like to
think we are still friends and can still help each other help others. It's
only the USGenWeb project that I'm walking away from.
Take care,
Vicki
Hi Tim,
Pepin County and Rock County CC here also ! I agree with Deby on this I think if it is
known what happened we should all be able to find out why! Vicki was doing a great
joband has been doing it for a while andfor her to just up and leave it had to be
something!!!!
Thanks.... :-)

it seems to me that if we have a volunteer, we should be grateful and thank
that person, and install them in the job. But I think we should find out the
real reason Vicki quit first.
Shelley
Hi Tim,
I don't think so, I think it has something to do with something going on
further up the line here. I was hoping you would answer us as to what is
happening that we need to worry about, but I guess not.
I doubt a logo would make Vicki leave just that quickly, no notice or
anything, just bang effective immediately she leaving. I think she caught
wind of something going on, perhaps from Bonnie who left or perhaps from a
mailing list we Wisconsin CC's aren't on, but I don't buy the logo issue
was the reason she bailed, then she would have bailed in the middle of the
discussion I think, not after the list got quiet.

I can't answer for Vicki, as I don't know her circumstances. I'm as
surprised as you were. The same goes for Bonnie.
As for New York - Kim resigned to go back to private life. This is a
decision she's been pondering for some time. She's got small children at
home and just recently got her degree so wished to move on.
The Colorado SC resigned after she first moved the state page to another
server without telling the CCs - which caused quite an uproar. Then some
resigned. One or two of them created a new competing state page on
Rootsweb under the cogenweb URL which was like tossing gasoline on a fire.
The State-Coord list exploded with the CO SC talking there and some other
SCs biting back. After one SC basically told her to shutup, I guess that
was the straw for her even though it was a message from a SC who hardly
ever says anything at all.

Hi Tim,
Ok, your national coordinator, I would assume you of all people would know
what is coming down here. Please don't keep us CC's in the dark, there is
some reason why these two ladies just up and bailed out of this project. I
don't know what is happening, but it concerns me that out of the clear blue
these people are bailing on the project. I don't know Bonnie, but I do know
Vicki has been doing this for a while and has been dealing with many

Thanks, Debie
When I was the ASC for Georgia, and the SC resigned, I took over as temp SC
until we had nominations, and an election.
We are going through that same process right now in New York.

<shrug> I have no idea. As ASC I suppose I have to take over temporarly
until someone volunteers.
Heck, with all the rule changes, politics etc... I have no earthly idea
what the procedure is. It used to be simple, someone volunteered, they had
the job. Now I think we have to do elections or something.
I'll post this on the SC list and see what they say.
