Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi All,
Does anyone know if Rootsweb is still changing things there? I can't
make any kind of connection to upload files to either of my counties, but I
can make the connection and upload to my homepage up there.
I can view them on-line, just can't connect to upload any files, HELP!!!
Thanks, Debie
In talking with the RW folk last night I learned that had found a problem
with the server and fixed that.
Estimated time for new account to become active is 3 days. Indexing will
be done less frequently until they can get all such tasks automated. Right
now it takes an actual person to start some of the programs associated with
the indexing process.

For Cass County, ND - which I've requested - just haven't added to my page
yet - I input http://www.rootsweb.com/~ndcass - the server then indexes
everything below that URL.
When you add your site - it takes a day or so to get it started up. The
results of adding this in are displayed - letting you know the code you
need to add to your county page for visitors to access the search engine.
Indexing takes place twice a day. As far as I know it should be available
to any site on rootsweb.

Hello all:
If I have done this right, how long does it take for the search engine to
spider your site and index it for the engine to work properly? I have a
working page for it on-line, but it won't bring up references to any of the
surnames I put in. I haven't placed a link to it on my main page yet until
the bugs are worked out.

Through the generosity of one of my patrons - I'll be adding a death index
for all deaths in Richland County from the 1800's through 1980 in alpha

For sites located on Rootsweb - the new Rootsweb search engine will allow
your visitors to type in a surname or location and recieve a listing of all
references to the search criteria on your site.

Marsha, and anyone else who's interested, the contest is on-going.
I have to say that WI did very well in December... We were among
the top 5 for uploading files. And while we're still well back of the
lead for overall totals, I think it's great what we do have.
There is a project underway on the GenWisconsin-L to transcribe
all the federal and state census for WI and everytime I "advertise"
things already available in the archives, more submissions come
in.
If you ever want to check out the current stats, you can go to
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/newstats.html.
Just checked the page, overall we have 16,498 bytes of data, which
puts us in the top 30. For the last month (12/4-1/3), we added
4921 bytes, which puts us 8th. However, things really looked
much better on 1/1/1999... I didn't write down those numbers,
but we were #4 with over 6M! Wish I would've saved that view
of things. <g>

Greetings All!
I have a bit of mystery to solve.
Apparently my mom had a little brother (she just moved here <WI> from NC
last month and I'm learning a lot) His name was Darwin, last name believed
to be RICE. He died very young, around 2 years old, she believes, which
would put his birth about 1934. She would like to find his grave, but has
almost nothing to go on. Her Mom died in 1954 and her Dad in 1956 (both
well before I was born <sigh>). Her brother died in 1996. Her only
surviving sibling, a sister, has no idea where the baby was buried either.
My Mom believes it was in the Spring Valley, Pierce county area, but can't
prove it. It would make sense since her father was born in Rock Falls. She
was only there once, but was made to stay in the car and was to young to
remember much about it.
If anyone has additional cemetery listings for this area, I would GREATLY
appreciate a quick check. Baby's last name may also have been
SWANER/SWANGER or FENSKE.
Sorry I can't give more information, but this is all I have right now.
Robin

Advisory Board Update 12/31 (#4)
A motion has been made to create a by-laws committee. The motion has been
seconded. This motion is open for discussion for a minimum of 48 hours.
Will someone volunteer to post this motion so that we will be following the
by-laws and giving the membership the necessary 48 hours to voice their
concerns before we vote? It should be posted on all of the regional
lists, -all, State list and probably posted on our national web page.
***** I hereby move that we create a By-Laws committee that shall be
comprised of volunteers from the general membership. The USGW Board shall
appoint a temporary chair until the first meeting of the committee when a
chairperson and vice-chairperson shall be selected by the committee members.
The NC shall be an "ex-officio" member of the committee. I further move
that this motion be placed on the upcoming ballot which is scheduled to take
place Jan 15-30, 1999*****
