Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi all,
Wondering how many of you (CCs, archive volunteers, SC, etc.) will be
attending the Wis. Sesquicentennial Family History Conference in Madison,
23-24 October? I'd like to meet you there and put faces to your names.
I will have a booth for my research business in the exhibitor area. Let
me know what days you will be attending and I will arrange a "GenWeb
roundtable" at a convenient time there.
By the way, it is not too late to register. Deadline for early
registration is 11 September (postmarked by) $65 for full conference, $45
for single day. After 11 Sept. $80 full conference, $55 single day.
Check out the the list of speakers and lectures at:
<http://www.rootsweb.com/~wsgs/wsfhc.html>. Print out the registration
form there and mail it by Friday.
And thank you again to all who posted a message regarding the conference
to your site. Registration is ca. 550 people! Don't worry, there's room
for more. : )
Hope to see you there!

Help!!
How does a home-bound lady in Arizona obtain information from the 1860
census of Wisconsin?
Does anyone have a look-up person willing to do searches in the 1860 census?
I'm stumped!

Hi Everybody!
I am pleased to announce that LuDeanne Guenther is the new County
Coordinator for the Shawano County WIGenWeb site, as of today.
LuDeanne graciously agreed to accept the job and, having a great
research interest in the county, I'm confident she'll do a terrific job!
(Probably better than me!) ;-D
Check out what she's done to the pages at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~wishawan/
I'm keeping Oconto County, so I'll still be around. And, of course, I'm
here to help our new "baby CC" with anything she needs.
I'd appreciate it if everybody would be as helpful & friendly to
LuDeanne as you have been to me. Especially at the beginning, she's
going to need all the assistance she can get.
Please Welcome our newest CC.
(Ooops! Now I have to go into GenConnect & switch it to her. Now where
did I put Vickie's instructions...)
Happy Hunting!

Hello everyone,
After months of asking that anyone subscribed to this list that wasn't a CC or
archivist please unsub themselves or write to me, I was left with a list of 16
"unknown" people. Last weekend I unsubbed them and finally got their
attention. I still need your help - if your county has an archivist who is not
also a county coordinator would you please let me know so I can add them to
this list.
There are currently 5 counties up for adoption - Ashland, Bayfield, Forest,
Iron and Oneida. All have pages up, some at Rootsweb can just be taken over,
others would need to be moved.
County coorinators for Door, Florence, Pepin and Vilas counties need to send
me the new URLs.
Current stats:
42 counties are using the GenConnect query boards (plus 1 state site for
unknown county, 1 for state civil war queries, and 1 for Native American
queries in WI coming soon)
26 counties are using the GenConnect obits boards, plus 1 site for strays
(obits posted for counties not using the system - currently has 89 messages)
23 counties are using the GenConnect bio boards.
41 sites are registered with Surname Helper.
4 counties are using the QueryExpress system.
28 counties have mailing lists.
Below is news on the GenConnect system that I have been asked to pass along.
Please read it and pass the info along.
Thanks for all the work each of you does on your county pages.

GenConnect Upgrade
"The entire GenConnect system will be upgraded starting at midnight on
Saturday September 5, 1998. This will require that we shut the system
down. The reason is twofold ..... it's not just a patch .... it's a
re-write of the program that runs the system. Also, the Global Search
engine has been revamped and mega-enhanced, which will require a total
rebuild. No new postings can be allowed during this rebuilding period.
Downtime is estimated to be 8 hours max (yep .... it's a huge system now!).
Anyone attempting to use the system during this downtime will be given
notice that it's being upgraded .... no-one will be left in the dark.
List of new GenConnect Features:
Visitor Toys:
-------------------
Separate entry fields for subject and surnames ..... allows more
descriptive subjects (non-surname words won't matter)
Main page of each board displays the list of surnames for each query, in
addition to the subject .... allows for more surnames to be entered
'Print' option now expanded to include the entire thread (user's option)
Surname page will be auto-generated, and auto-updated weekly (more
frequently with admin intervention), and will now be alphabetized and
hotlinked to the query in which it appears.
Cookie support expanded to include "date ranges".
Faster, sleeker search engine.
Multiple-word surnames supported - including the capability of searching
for them.
New search options added to the Global Search ..... soundex (enhanced over
previous version), partial word match, whole word match, wildcard searching."
Hi Everyone,
Just a note to let you know of an exciting event that is coming up in
just a few weeks.
The Annual Tri-County Genealogy Meeting is planned for Saturday, 19
September 1998 at the UW - Eau Claire campus. This meeting is sponsored
by the Genealogical Research Society of Eau Claire along with the Dunn
County Genealogical Society and the Chippewa County Genealogical
Society. It promises to be a great day -- full of valuable
information! For more details see our web page at:
http://users.rootsweb.com/~wieaucla/tricounty.htm
Hope you all can come!
