Hello All,
I'm pleased to let you know that the Newspaper Index at Morrisson-Reeves
Library is now available via the Internet. This excellent resource can be
reached by going to Morrisson-Reeves web page at
http://www.mrl.lib.in.us
and clicking on the "Online Catalog" icon. On the next screen, click on the
WebPac icon (be patient, it takes a bit of time for the next screen to come
up). Select the "Newspaper Index" option on the left hand side of the
screen.
You can then enter a word (such as a surname) to search. The search results
can be sorted by Date, Publication, or Title. The results obtained (click
on a specific item and then on "show details") will list the publication,
title of the article, date, page and column. Armed with this information,
you can then go to Morrisson-Reeves Library to request the microfilm with
that publication and date in order to read the article. The article itself
IS NOT available online.
This service is being offered through two grants from the Wayne County
Foundation and a grant from Indiana Heritage Research. The grant money is
used to pay temporary employees to enter the information into the system.
Currently, there are four temporary employees working on the project.
The Newspaper Index contains information as far back as the 1880's. Local
papers such as The Palladium, The Richmond Item, the Richmond Sun Telegram,
The Daily Sun, The Richmond Telegram, The Richmond Independent, The Broad
Axe of Freedom and The Grubbing Hoe of Truth are included, as well as many
others.
Explore and Enjoy!
