Hello,
I am new to the list and hoping that someone can help me. I have only
recently (after MUCH searching) found my Wayne County connection. I have
been in the dark for so long that it feels wonderful to finally see some
light! The Jarvis family may have been living in Wayne County for a long
time. I found references to a Thomas Jarvis and a Benjamin Jarvis in the
Tombstone Inscription books, but don't have a connection (yet!) to William.
(I was also informed me that Benjamin and Thomas are in the book on the
history of Wayne County.) Perhaps Benjamin or Thomas was William's father?
It is a great mystery to me what happened to William, because he does not
appear in the Tombstone book and, by 1869, he was not with the family.
Perhaps he died in the Civil War? Does anyone know how I can find out if
he was a CW soldier?
JARVIS, William (dates unknown; b. Indiana; b. Richmond?) married Ann
Rebecca TAYLOR (aka Rebecca Taylor; b. Iowa; d. Iowa, 1869); married 1851,
Wayne County, IN
Their children:
Elizabeth JARVIS, b. c. 1855, Indiana (Richmond, most likely)
Charles JARVIS, b. 1857, Richmond Indiana
Alva Perman JARVIS, b. 1865, Indiana (Richmond?) **my gggrandfather
Sometime between 1865, when Alva was born and 1869, when Ann R. died (in
Iowa), William either died or divorced Ann, because in 1869, when Ann died,
the children went to live with a relative in North English (Iowa County),
Iowa. Since Ann died in Iowa, she must have gone back home (with her
children) after William died or divorced, or whatever.
If anyone has heard any of these names or has any ideas to help me find
more information on them, I would really appreciate hearing from you. My
local library doesn't have much in the way of books on Wayne County. I
tried looking for William in the 1850 census, but it was so faded I
couldn't read it at all. (The index listed both Benjamin and Thomas
Jarvis.)
Thanks very much.
