Linda Cranor was kind enough to send me this note. I am hoping maybe there
are some other CRANOR cousins out there!

??? Linda Cranor
(which makes us 5th cousins as many times removed as you are generations
down from me)
Here's some specifics you may or may not have. I would like to have in
return whatever you can send about descendants (generations further down
than
the summary you sent me). In the listing below, when I mention other
documents
available, in many cases I have them transcribed (like wills, obituaries,
etc.).
If you have an interest in some of them, let me know and I'll work on
getting
them to you (though I don't always work quickly!) If any of this is
unclear,
just ask for clarification...
Parents of Thomas were Moses & Sarah Cranor of NC. Moses born 1733 (In
land records of 1774 he says he is age 41). His will was filed in Marlboro
Co,
SC in 1793, and he probably died in that year. In the first US census in
1790
he is in Cheraw dist., SC. Sarah's maiden name is unknown. Her will was
proved in 1801 in Guilford Co, NC. Moses' parents are unknown, though a
likely father is Thomas Cranor of Talbot Co, MD, who died in 1756 in Queen
Annes Co, MD.
Thomas Cranor was born around 1754 and died around 1796 (when Joshua was
2 years old). His wife was Hannah Trotter (parents Josiah & Jane Trotter),
and she may have married George Manlove in 1799 after Thomas' death.
Thomas' will is recorded Apr 1795 in Guilford Co, NC. He appears in land
records in both NC and in SC (where he inherited land from his father). In
1790 he was censused in Guilford Co, NC, in the Salisburg district.
(Thomas'
siblings: Elizabeth, Prudence, Sarah, and Moses.) (Hannah's siblings:
George,
Nancy, Ephraim, Betsey, Benjamin, Joseph, Jane, Mary, Edward, Oldham,
Rachel.)
Joshua was born 10 Sep 1794 in NC, and died 3 Jun 1866 in Wayne Co, IN.
He
is buried in Williamsburg cemetery, Green township, Wayne Co, IN. Censused
1840, 1850, 1860 in Green township, Wayne Co, IN. According to local
histories of the area, he was a ranger in the war of 1812, and built
blockhouses in the area as defense against the Indians. National archives
records indicate he served as a private in Capt. Richard Lewis' co of
Colonel
McFarland's detachment, 8th IN Militia. Volunteered on 18 May 1813 and
discharged 18 Jul (enlisted for 2 months). In 1855 he applied for bounty
land
based on his service; he received a land warrant, which he sold without
ever
himself claiming the land. The 1856 Wayne Co Citizen's Directory lists
Joshua, a farmer, residing on the west side of the Richmond and
Williamsburg
Pike 1 mile SE of Williamsburg in Green twp. Milo Cranor, farmer, resides
with him. (Joshua's siblings: Joseph, Moses, Thomas Jr., Sarah, another
sister,
John).
Joshua's wife, Susannah Johnson, was born 27 Jan 1797 in NC. I have
several
different death dates from different sources, 30 Dec 1886, 28 Dec 1886, or
Dec 1887. She is buried also in Williamsburg cemetery. Her parents were
William Johnson (1767-1830, possibly born PA) and Sarah Adams (4 Jul 1758
in
Scotland or 1765 in NC -1862 in IN). Susannah's parents were Quakers, and
had been members ofthe Goshen MM in Chester Co, PA. (Many siblings, only
one
of whom I recorded [because his grandson married a Cranor]: Samuel.)
