I have observed that here of late, some of the lists I subscribe
to have had folks asking about info on Dayton's "Old Soldier's
Home" and The Nation Cemetery there. Well, I just thought I'd
pass on a web address that might help some folks out that are
looking for such information here on these lists.
The "Old Soldier's Home" is no longer there. It has been replaced
by the Dayton VA Medical Center. The National Cemetery is still
there on the grounds.
Go to:
http://www.daytonvamc.com
Here you can get addresses and phone numbers for what ever info
you are looking for. If you want info on the history of the
"Old Soldiers Home" or the VA Medical Center history, call
(937) 268-6511 this is customer service. Ask for extension 2115
this will get you the VA Historian, Karen Duhart. She will help
you out with your questions on the Old Soldier's Home/Dayton
VAMC history.
All of you folks are close enough to drive/call if you have
ancestors buried there, interested in it's history, or just to
find out general info on the place.
Just thought I'd pass this on for future reference.
Doug
