I am researching a Spencer family that came to Wayne Co. in the early
1800's. CHARLES SPENCER apparently came to Green twp. as a young man before
1820 from CT. Sometime between 1830 and 1839 he had several siblings join
him. They are as follows:
ERASTUS SPENCER b. 1808 m. Charlotte (b. England), children Ellsworth and
Electa (last found in Wayne Co. census 1850)
ELLEN SPENCER b. 1813 m. Charles FERGUSON (moved to Marshall Co. bef. 1850)
NANCY SPENCER b. 1824 m. Caleb FENIMORE (divorced 1848, moved to Marshall
Co. with Ellen and Charles)
HEPZIBAH A. SPENCER b. unk. m. George Washington REYNOLDS. last found around
1860, children Wilbur, Esther, John, Spencer and Deborah.
Nancy and Ellen and families eventually end up in Iowa. Nancy's daughter, I
believe marries John REYNOLDS (her first cousin). I do not know if Charles
had any children or not, his wife's name is possibly Datee and she was born
in PA. They were last found in Wayne Co. in 1850 and Charles FENIMORE,
Nancy's child is living with them.
I would love to find anyone who can help me with any of these families, any
clues you can give me to more siblings (I believe there were at least 2
other sisters and possibly another brother) and who their parents were is
greatly appreciated.
