Doug,
I recently happened across a book I found very useful regarding Quakers and
genealogy. It's called "Our Quaker Ancestors - Finding Them in Quaker
Records" by Ellen Thomas Berry & David Allen Berry. (ISBN 0-8063-1190-8,
Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc.)
It is a small book, not intended to be a in-depth history of the Quaker
movement, but offers excellent information on how to interpret the excellent
records kept by the Quaker meetings.
There is also a very active mailing list for Quaker genealogy. You can find
sign up information at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~quakers/quaker-r.htm (Hint: This is a VERY active
list. If you don't want tons of mail, you will prefer the "digest version"
of this mailing list.)
Some good web sites for Quaker information are located at:

Subject: Re: William and Jane BROWN, Wayne Co. IN
Dos anyone know a good reference book giving the history of the Quakers who
emigrated from North Carolina to Indiana in the early 19th century? There
seems to be a large number of them that did so, and I'm guessing the reason
was slavery.
Also, I've hit a brick wall; the earliest ancestor I've found is Lewis
Hosier, born in North Carolina in 1775. Any suggestions on how to find his
parents?
Thanks for all your help,
Doug

For anyone interested, you may view what we've found on the
William and
Jane Brown family of Harrison Twp, Wayne Co, IN at:
http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/k/i/m/Cynthia-S-Kimes/
Look for the title:
Descendants of William and Jane Brown (a little conjecture included!)
Most of the data has been documented; we've not verified that the
William Brown married to Eliza Bolton is the right William.
Please contact me with connections, corrections, and/or questions.
Thanks in advance for looking.
