I've been working on a line of Clarks from the Wayne county area for
some time and had a few questions that maybe someone more familiar with
Wayne county resources had some answers to.
I have a Thomas G. Clark listed as owning a farm in Washington
Township just south of Milton and just north of Connersville. He died on
July 09, 1869 as per the local newspaper the Palladium. The paper also
named the administrator as Oth Beeson on Aug 24th 1869 for an Administrators
sale . If Thomas had made a will during that time where and how would one
locate that in the Wayne County Court records? Also where would be a good
place to research land records and deeds for Wayne county for that time
period.
A little more on my particular Clark line.
Thomas G. Clark came to Wayne county Indiana with his parents in
1834 or there about. According to records he was born in Madison County
Virginia April 05, 1811. He was a school teacher for six to seven years,
not sure where yet. He married Cynthia Ann Lower February 03, 1838 in Wayne
county. He and his family left Wayne county in 1844 for Madison county but
he came back to Wayne county in 1863. On source I have list his place of
death as Connersville, which is completely possible given the closeness of
his farm to that city.
I know that Thomas had four sons: Alfred H., Silas, Franklin and
Joseph. Only Silas stayed in the Wayne county area I believe on the same
farm that Thomas had maintained. I don't believe that Silas had any
children to speak of. Thomas is said to have been buried on his farm, I
believe this is now a cemetery just north of Beesons crossing. Not sure yet
but think that Thomas's father was James Clark and his mother was Eliza or
Elizabeth both are found on a farm just south in Fayette County Harrison
township in the 1850 census. Thomas also had a brother James Madison Clark
who moved to the vicinity of Greenfield in Hancock county.
Any help in finding records of this time period and local would be
greatly appreciated, I live close enough to Wayne county that I could make
a day trip one of these days but would like to make my time there as
productive as possible. Thank you all ahead of time.
