I'm researchng the John Newman Leebrick family of Dublin in western Wayne county, and
the John Rodenburg family of Richmond. The Leebricks moved to Wayne county from Dauphin
County, Pennsylvania in the late 1830s. He was in the mercantile business and was a
grocer. Letters written by one of his children report that he was involved in the
Underground Railroad during the Civil War. The girls of the Leebrick family were educated
at the Dublin Academy, and one of them, Kate, went on to become a well known Methodist
evangelist and temperance crusader. Their son Luther died of heat stroke a few days after
the successful siege of Vicksburg, during the Civil War. Their son Charles eventually
moved to California, where he was in the construction trade. A few years before their
50th wedding anniversary in 1878, John and Matilda (Tillie) moved to the Peru (IN) area
to be closer to their daughter. They both died there in the early 1880s.
The Rodenburgs lived in Richmond. Frank Leebrick and Fannie Rodenburg wanted to marry,
but her mother would not approve when she learned that they intended to move out west.
Years later, after both their spouses died, Frank and Fannie were re-united and enjoyed
several years of married life in Kansas.
Would like to know more about the Rodenburg family, and their children James, Charles,
Mary, Cora and Steven. Will share what I have.
