I've "rescued" an old photograph of Mr. A.W. MCPHERSON and his wife Mattie
MAXWELL MCPHERSON which was taken at the Carpenter Studio in Panora, Iowa.
The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with the
couple looking to be in their 30's or 40's at the time it was taken.
Based on limited research I believe this is a photograph of Augustus W.
MCPHERSON b. 16 October 1845 in Wayne County, Indiana to parents Joseph
Wilson MCPHERSON and Sarah LENNINGTON. Joseph Wilson MCPHERSON was b. 1815
in Ohio, the son of George D. MCPHERSON and Charity H. LOCKE, Charity being
the daughter of Captain John LOCKE of Roanoke, Virginia.
Joseph married Sarah LENNINGTON in 1834 and together they had twelve
children, George B., Abraham L., John B., Augustus W., Mary Jane, James
Monroe, Rufus K., Emma C., Exaline S., Myrta E., and two who died in
infancy. The family came to Guthrie Co., IA in 1857, living in Mackville
(between Greenfield and Redfield) and then in 1896 moved to Herford, South
Dakota with some of his sons.
Augustus W. MCPHERSON pictured in the photograph with his wife was in the
Railroad business. May of his siblings settled in Stuart, Iowa, while Rufus
K. MCPHERSON went to Portland, Oregon. I'm hoping to locate someone from
this family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the
care of family.
If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please
contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
