My family is from Richmond and they are German, I have never heard of Germantown in
Richmond. You really have made me curious. Please post any references you find. I would
greatly appreciate it.

Richard,
You might try the Morrisson Reeves Library in Richmond, Indiana. Just
Google their name to get their e-mail address. My German ancestors settled
near there also. Their surnames were Myers (Meyer), Crull and Lemberger.
The town is actually East Germantown. The Post Office will only allow one
name per state. The name Germantown seems to have been preempted by the one
in Decatur County, Adams Township. During World War I (perhaps WWII also),
anti-German sentiment was running fairly high and the name "Pershing" was
used. Cooler heads seemed to prevail and the East Germantown designation
was restored.
It is likely that the best source will be Wayne County histories. There are
several. The two that I have are by Andrew Young (1872) and by the
Inter-State Publishing Company in 1884.
If you don't get a satisfactory response from Morrisson-Reeves, let me know
and I will copy the few pages that these histories devote to East Germantown
and send them to you.

Does anyone know of any history done on the city/town of Germantown??
An
extensive number of my relatives settled there and in nearby areas.? They
were all PA-Dutch, and descended from a common ancestor going back to the
late 1600's.
