Subject: [WAYNE_IN] Germantown history
Does anyone know of any history done on the city/town of Germantown?? An
extensive number of my relatives settled there and in nearby areas.? They
were all PA-Dutch, and descended from a common ancestor going back to the
late 1600's.

Thank you to all who have sent in all the information on Germantown. Through the
library newspaper index and Cambridge City Tribune, I have gathered much information on
the Gipe Family. I was hoping someone could help me with some questions. This is the
family I am researching.
1860 U.S. Census
M 653 Roll 308 Page 185
Wayne County Indiana, East Germantown, Cambridge City Post office
Gipe, William 42 Horse Dr. $1,000 real estate, $2000 personal property PA
Civilla 36 PA (Sic: Sevilla)
Cilvester 13 IN Attends school (Sic: Silvester)
William 11 IN Attends school
Sophia 9 IN Attends school
Charles 7 IN Attends school
Corah 5 IN Attends school (Sic: Cora)
Frank 3 IN
Warren 1 IN
I am following Warren's line.
These children joined the family after this US Census
Lincoln b. 1860
Alice S. b. 1862
Emma Bell b. 1865
Gertrude (Gertie) b. 1893
My questions does anyone know if Jacob Gipe, born 1797 PA, is the father of the above
William Gipe, born 1817 PA? Does anyone know if the Esquire Gipe named often in the
Cambridge City Tribune is Jacob?
Am having trouble proving the parents of this William Gipe. Would like to correspond with
anyone else studying the Gipe family.
Thank you again to all the helpful Wayne County Indiana genealogists!
Donna

Donna,
I can only respond to that part of your message in which you wish to
correspond with others researching the GIPE surname.
My 2nd great-grandfather's sister, Sarah Weaver (1842-1919) married Joseph
Gipe (1834-1913) in Hamilton County, Indiana on 18 December 1859. Joseph's
parents may have been Michael (born about 1800) and Magdalena ? (born about
1805).
