I am a fan of CSI: Las Vegas and, interestingly enough, one of their episodes (don't
recall which season) dealt with this syndrome. I found it fascinating. CSI has many
technical advisers and they presented the facts rather well.
I realize this is an off the wall comment, but had to mention it.

This phenomenon is known as Chimerism. It is very rare: only 30
humans have been found to have this condition, but it is thought that
in-vitro fertilization may increase the incidence of chimerism. One
example is the recently named "vanishing twin syndrome". Here is an
