I'm looking for information (and hopefully descendents) of Mary Ann SEHI,
born Mary Ann or Maria Anna HUTH or HUT, who was married to Peter SEHI on 19
Feb 1876 at St. Gabriel Church in Connersville. Mary Ann was Peter's second
wife and had one daughter by him (also named Mary Ann?.) Then--apparently
after Peter died--Mary Ann had five other children who are listed with her
in Wayne County Catholic church records, census records and city directories
from 1900 until her death in 1935. It's pretty confusing, but here is what
I know:
1. Mary Catherine SEHI b. 24 Apr 1873. No baptismal record found. She
married Oliver VAN ZANT on 11 Sep 1907 and died 3 Dec 1935. This could be
the daughter of Mary Ann and Peter, except that parish records of St.
Gabriel in Connersville show a "Maria Anna Sehi" b. 18 Sep 1875 as being the
child of this couple, and Peter may have still been married to his first
wife, Catherine GERMANN, in 1873. I don't have her date of death, but her
last child was born on 12 Feb 1870.
Children of Mary Catherine SEHI and Oliver VAN ZANT:
George Albert VAN ZANT b. 30 Mar 1908
James VAN ZANT b. 27 Jun 1910
Elenor Leota VAN ZANT b. 27 Jun 1913
James Henry VAN ZANT b. 27 Feb 1915
2. Theresa M. SEHI b. Sept 1875. (or 1 Oct 1879, according to Wayne Co.
marriage records) No baptismal record found. She married Herbert M.
CRAWFORD 1 Feb 1913. No children.
3. Charles (or Carl) A. SEHI b. 19 May 1881 and died by accidental
drowning in 1914 while swimming alone at the reservoir. He was baptized at
St. Mary's Church on 22 Dec 1893. No father listed. He did not marry.
Charles was active in local politics and was about to run for city council
on some weirdo party's ticket when he drowned.
4. Elenora A. SEHI b. 8 Jun 1885, baptized at St. Mary's on 22 Dec 1893,
listed as illegitimate child of Mary Ann SEHI. She married Fred C. BROKAMP
on 3 Feb 1909. One child, Charles Henry BROKAMP, b. 28 Sep 1909.
5. Edward Joseph SEHI b. 21 Apr 1888, baptized at St. Mary's on 7 Dec
1888, listed as illegitimate but with "putative father" Timothy TAGERTY. I
don't know what happened to Edward, as he isn't listed with the rest of the
family in the census records or city directories.
I'll be grateful for any assistance any of you can give me on this family.
They aren't my direct line, but Peter SEHI was my great great grandfather
and I'm really curious about Mary Ann and her children. Thanks!
