Henry Brown came up from KY and purchased land in the Indiana Territory
in Oct 1811. He settled on his land which was about one mile west of
Jacksonburg, IN in the area later known as Harrison Twp, Wayne Co, IN.
The "History of Wayne County, Vol. II, tells us Ephraim Clark "settled
on land first owned by Henry Brown" and when the 1820 IN Federal Census
was taken, we find Ephraim living in Wayne Co., and Henry? Well, there
are no Henrys in Wayne Co. We find only four in the State - two in
Franklin Co, one in Lawrence Co, and one in Harrison Co.
So what happened to the Henry Brown of one mile west of Jacksonburg?
And, what is my interest?
Those that have been following my messages on William and Jane Brown of
Wayne Co. may recall they lived in this same area. They settled on their
property about 1½ mi. w. of Jacksonburg, IN, in 1812; thus, my interest
in their next door neighbor, Henry Brown. And, because most of William
Brown's children were born in KY, I find it particularly interesting
that another BROWN from KY was living this close to William at this
early a time in the history of the Indiana Territory. Surely there is a
connection! Does anyone know more?
Thanks for your attention!
